You are a newbie and are thinking about spending $30,000 for the Loit; is this some kind of put-on?? Does a dealer even exist for this thing, or is it simply a prototype? Since this is your first post, one might even wonder if this isn't some kind of phony attempt to promote this unit, by a non-existent shill. Is your real name Lebedev?

On the other hand....

If you really want the best CD player available, as opposed to some sort of poof-art objet to look at with the lights off, I strongly recommend the AYRE C5-xe at $6000.

If you are really a newbie, then the Marantz SA-8000 at $900 is a good place to start; a very good player at a very good price.

I would not waste dollars on a $6,000 CD player there are just too many great CD players out there at a fraction of that price

Hi guys,

Recently, I've been interested in CD players but I'm not too sure what should I look out for in a good CD player. I came across Loit Eagle Neo-Retro CD Player. I thought it looked pretty decent but I don't want to rush into getting it and am thinking of exploring other alternatives. Anyone heard of it? Or any recommendations for a newbie like me? Would appreciate advices. Thanks!

Your Chinglish suggests you're simply trying to get free advertising for that thing. Looks more like a CD incubator than a CD player.
If you are genuine, which I doubt very much, look at Marantz's range of mid-priced players. If you're really wanting to spend silly money, as I did, buy yourself a Meridian 808.2. It'll walk all over that incubator thing, although I have to confess the Meridian does look like it belongs in a dental surgery rather than on a poultry farm..

Yes, there are some fabulous players out there at a fraction of the cost of that incubator thing but spending a bit of silly money, as I did on the Meridian 808.2, has given me musical joy I'd never thought possible from the standard Red Book format. Besides, a large number of CD's that were previously painful to listen to, are for reasons I don't understand ( and it's not a rolled off top end or valve/tube induced rosy glow), now enjoyable on the 808.2. OK, you don't have to spend huge amounts these days but those of us silly enough to do so carefully don't necessarily feel we've thrown our money away. Far from it.

I have heard the Meridean CD player and for $16,000 I can honestly say it was not better than the Arcam I listened to for $1000. However if it makes you happy then so be it. Even if I hit the lotto tomorrow I doubt that I would spend $16,000 on a CD player.

Well, all that tells us is you don't (can't?) hear what I hear on my system. I compared the 808.2 with less expensive players and some way more expensive and on my system, in my room I thought it was worth the money.
Now that doesn't mean I don't accept that you can get a huge amount of musical enjoyment out of some of today's budget players, you can.

Ive been looking into a new car but i don't know what to look for in a good car. I found one called a Delorean. It looks alright, the doors open vertically and I guess it was used in a movie or something. I don't want to rush into a purchase... Has anyone heard of this really cool car?

Thanks,
-Ledorean-

-Maybe tactics like this could have kept this company from tanking back in the day

If everyone's suspicion is correct I believe the appropriate term is astroturfing

The really funny part is that this was posted to the "Entry Level" section.

That's another clue these idiots are working in their second language, Chinglish. I've offered my services as an English editor to a number of Chinese companies dishing up this kind of crap as English but none have accepted. They're so arrogant they actually believe they're speaking good English. This only becomes a real problem for us audiophiles when we make the mistake of purchasing Chinese/Taiwanese or Singaporian gear that comes with instruction manuals so mangled they can be positively dangerous. One that came my way advised that a large valve power amplifier ' Not to be done to earthing'. I have no idea what they really meant but if it was taken by some innocent buyer as the device not needing to be earthed they could kill themselves.

Maybe toli counted on the inexperience of "Entry Level" readers to not know what they were being sold. Buyer beware.

Exactly..as long as YOU can hear the difference who cares what you paid for it. I would say that probably 95% of the people on this board cannot afford $16,000 for a CD player so you're one lucky person.

I would like to see an experiment where there are 3-4 CD players hooked up to the same system and audiophiles are brought in to do a blind hearing test to determine which ones sound best. It would be interesting to see which one they would pick...

I am aware of the wide price range of CD players which begets my next question - what component(s) of the CD player could attribute to the difference in the experience it gives? And if $16000 is worth the difference, I certainly would not mind paying for it.

mrlowry, I have no system in place yet but am considering a music home theatre setup to be exact. Being really new in this area, do you mind if you could advise on what is important to look out for?

I got to know about the LOIT CD Player in one of the links my friend gave me when I asked about CD players. I thought it looked pretty stylish. And that's why I am here to see if anyone cares to share more about it/just CD players in general.

I thought I was crazy when my system started getting over $500, Ive put in about $800 so far and I haven't even bought speakers yet. It seems crazy to me that someone would spend over $5000 on their very first system, let alone a CD-Player. Plus the CD-player was the last component I bought. I was more worried about getting power to my speakers before I bought source components. I'm using NAD components too (they aren't that pleasing to the eye) This just seems to far out to be legitimate.

Toli-

For the most part this forum is dedicated to stereo reproduction for many reasons. One of the big reasons is that to reproduce a given level of stereo performance in multi channel (surround sound) you have to spend 5 or 6 x as much money and since very few recordings are made for surround most of the investment isn't used most of the time. That is unless someone uses one of those surround modes that turns stereo into surround. That alteration is artificial and most people involved in high end have keeping the original signal (the music) as pure and unchanged as possible as their top priority.

So the CD player is actually not that important in a system? Pardon my ignorance as I initially thought that it is an equipment that I have to first consider in setting up a system. As for the source components, what's recommended then?

If you could read you would see that I didn't say anything about CD players not being important. If you buy a CD player first It will just sit on your rack until you get an amplifier and speakers. Unless of course your goal is to just have something that looks cool and lights up which the LOIT is perfectly good for.

Its probably a good idea to look into preamps amplifiers and speakers before you purchase a CD player.

As far as source components go it is completely up to you. You can run a CD player, a Tuner, a Turntable, a TapeDeck, an MP3 player... whatever you want. You can buy as many sources as you want but without a receiver or amplifier they are just going to collect dust.
