82% of Americans think Bush stank. The worst rating of all time...if you believe polling data do you now follow that opinion?

Majority of Americans prefer Democrats in the House and Senate, so that must be the correct governmental structure.

(I'm neutral on global warming, just pointing out the danger of wrapping oneself in polling data.)

I saw Al Gore's movie and I thought he made a good case for global warming. The case he made was not without its flaws, but overall, I came away thinking there was something to it.

Sometime later, I realized that Al Gore makes his money by trading carbon credits. Once I found that out, he lost all credibility with me. That doesn't mean that Global warming is or isn't happening, but Al Gore's solutions will be self serving.

Sad...for 3 decades since the 'New Ice Age' scare was discounted, we have had the fringe squealing about Global Warming, despite global temp drops over much of the last decade. Like our parents before us, when the trendiness of the idea is well past its prime, oldies and politicians climb aboard. I am reminded of 50 year olds pretending to be cool as they discover RAP, not unlike ancient rockers of yesteryear.

The train has left the station on this and folk are waking up. Though it will take a decade and the political class will waste a LOT of money on the 'crisis', this too will pass and we will move onto the next Tulip Craze.

First, it was save the whales, then it was save the ozone layer, then it was save the rain forest. Then, it was save the spotted owl, now, it's global warming. I think this is a Christian thing where every generation looks forward to its own Armageddon.

Exactly. What people believe is totally irrelevant. What matters is what actually is.

Global Warming is nothing more than an updated Dutch Tulip craze, and will fade as fast.

We will see "Green" toothpaste, toilet paper, autos and yes, audio gear until it is so omnipresent it means nothing at all.

The one place that dispassionately makes the case for global warming is the USDA list of 'planing zones' for people to know which plants will do well at which latitudes.

Since the early 1920's, the different temperature zones (called hardiness zones) have all been migrating in a northerly pattern.

You can look up how these "hardiness zones," as the government has decsribed them since the Hoover administration and get an idea.

Now, there are many factors in play with governmental anything, but these zones were noted to be drifting north 50 years ago...more accurate measuring, or warming?

All in all, maybe there is a trend toward warmer weather, but these cycles have such a long history, I remain somewhat dubious about the man caused part.

I mean, did the Neanderthals somehow end the ice age?

Not only is it flat, it was made in 7 days about 5,000 years ago and we're all decended from Noah and his friends and family! Apparently a lot of people think they can pick and choose which aspect of scientific reality they want to "believe" in. Good luck with that is all I can say.

I'm from central Wisconsin and this is the coldest year I have seen in my lifetime. Through most of December we were getting snow every day...

Last month on one of the coldest nights Ive seen a long time a friend of mine pulled up to a gas station in a ford excursion that he was driving because his car was in the shop. (The excursion averages about 5mpg)
-The lady at the pump next to him was driving a Prius.
When my friend got out of the truck the lady turned and asked him, "Do you know what you are doing to the environment by driving that thing?"
he responded, "Obviously I'm not doing enough." (in reference to the freezing cold weather)

In old Wisconsin pictures from the 20's and 30's winter shots often include tunnels that had to be dug over sidewalks because the snow was so high. What has changed since then? When I was younger I recall winters with barely any snow... The local ski resort would have been out of business if it wasn't for artificial snow machines... However, Over the last 4-5 years I have noticed a significant increase in snow fall and the winters seem to be getting longer and longer. From what I have seen where I live, global warming is seeming more and more like a natural cycle blown way out of proportion.

Even if we agree that Global warming is real, we can't turn our entire civilization on its head. Whatever it is, we must cope and adapt. We do much better as a species adapting than by reinventing and planning an entire existence.

Gore Losing the War: 59% Don't Believe Man Is Warming the Planet

By Noel Sheppard (Bio | Archive)
January 19, 2009 - 13:28 ET

He won an Oscar and a Nobel Peace Prize, but a recent poll suggests the Global Warmingist-in-Chief Al Gore is losing his propaganda war to convince Americans carbon dioxide is destroying the planet.

http://newsbusters.org/blogs/noel-sheppa...-warming-planet

Hard to convince folk in this era of ever colder days that the end is near unless we give the loonie left all our money to save us from evil global warming...

Question the messenger. Read the fine print.

Who owns and controls the Nobel organization, and who owns and runs the Oscars?

But here's a few things you need to know about global warming.

When the earth's atmosphere and climate warms..the warmth reaches the north and south poles and begins to melt said poles.

Think steam vs water.

When that ice is released as vapour, it expands and the now (SLIGHLY WARMER, it's still damn cold!) warm moist air that used to be ice..expands...(DUH!) and heads south.

Now, the zone where the jet stream tends to move through gets considerably more agitated and then we have more severe storms and severe swings in temperatures/weather in those areas that experience the larger amounts of climactic change in the seasons. Right around the Canada/US border, ie the 49th parallel, with regards to North America.

The same for Europe, Australia, South America, etc, all in those areas, the swings are greater-every year.

We also get stalled air (bubbles) and then we get hot spells in the normally temperate areas and then cold swings of unusual size and value (time lengths of said pattern are all over the map, and so is the temp, etc).

The resulting situation gives fodder to both camps but the reality is that the poles ARE melting.

And the truth is that there IS incredible political and corporate pressure on all sides to mis-represent and mishandle the situation for the various camps.

And they all do mis-represent and mishandle and cry wolf about the other camp.

Total psycho-bullshit intended for the manipulation of the masses. 111% on that one.

There is a loonie left and it is here to fuck you over for itself and no it is not even remotely liberal in or at it's core.

It is fascist and corporate, EXACTLY like the bullshit coming in from the 'Right', the neocons and their 'fuck you over' camp.

We are also at the lowest sunspot activity level ever recorded at this moment and this is also depressing the temperatures.

The next sunspot cycle is supposed to be a hellacious doozy of the worst kind.

Think of us being at the point on the rollercoaster ride where the cart is flying in the air at the top of the highest peak (wahhooo!air time!)...and we are about to hit the tracks and go downward at an extremely frightening pace and with extreme force and danger.

The calm before the storm, it is. Likely to be the biggest sunspot cycle ever known. If we survive it. That bad.

But the 'sunspot calm before the storm' point that exits right now, WILL chill the earth's air to some degree, even though we have fucked it over with the C02 emissions. The coolness is FALSE, due to this current sunspot situation.

When the cycle starts again, which it will do any day now, we shall see how hard and fast that ride will be. How hot, stormy, wet and explosive this sunspot cycle will be. The extremes of the swings are getting out of control. And the taster of the whole thing that we had with katrina and that time period, with regards to the weather, will come back with extreme force and you very likely wish for the calm of storms like Katrina.

For it will very, very likely be far, far worse.

Yeah, but the whole problem is it's NOT about what you can see. None of us alone see much of ANYTHING. The world DOES look flat and about a million other proven laws of science would be impossible to verify on a personal level. Can you even say that the sun does not go around the earth, from YOUR perspective? Information about global events or trends HAS to be tested and verified via global means. Any basic study of global warming trends point out some places WILL get a lot colder, it's the overall temp that counts.

Alex: And when waters DO start rising, lush areas go dry and storms get stronger and stronger it's going to be an expensive proposition to adapt, even for rich countries. For poor ones, it'll be near anniliation in many cases.

Global Warming is NOT a fad; it is an established scientific fact. Any statement to the contrary flies in the face of thousands of scientific studies over the past 50 years by thousands of highly qualified experts, and their indisputable conclusions.

The official scientific community in every major country in the world has endorsed the view that Global Warming is not only real, but that it is a severe threat to the continued existence of earth's environment as mankind now knows it.

For some of the FACTS, as opposed to some of the incredible ignorance being espoused in some posts I see here, a good start is to look up Global Warming on Wikipedia; it is not the last word, but a good summary of many important facts.

We really don't know if the waters will start rising or by how much and over how long a period of time. The faster things happen, the more expensive it would be to adapt. However, if things change relatively gradually (say within a 50 or a 100 year time frame), then people can adapt relatively cheaply.

Netherlands has dealt with rising water levels, we can use the Dutch model. Besides, there is no guarantee that if we were to turn our entire civilization on its head, we would be able to accomplish anything. So, if we weigh the cost of adapting, vs completely revamping our entire economic existence...

If my choices are global warming or global cooling, I'll take warming. Food could be a real problem if we enter a prolonged cooling cycle. On the other hand, warming extends the growing seasons and increases crop production. In either case, the sun is responsible for 99.99% of the outcome.

There are many well respected climate scientists who dispute the findings of the IPCC.

there is no left or right, there never was. There is only a battle created for the gammas in society who think of life in terms of us vs. them.

Just a game for the peons. That's all. Some folks need to grow up and understand that basic point which has been used by the more powerful groups in this world, for thousands of years, now.

Each generation is born into that system so they only know what they've been taught and 'know' as real. Since we are the creators of our own minds, the influence of this created system is a perfect lock on our own understandings of reality-as it shaped our minds as the 'accepted reality', when we were children.

Back to the subject at hand. I've been looking and musing upon the global warming trend since 1977. That's 32 years.

Longer than some of the corporate shills on both sides of the argument have been alive.

There is another Antarctic ice shelf collapsing.

http://www.sciam.com/article.cfm?id=antarctic-ice-shelf-set-t

This also provides a bit of information about how we need to look at and protect what we have.

On the left is the volume of ALL water on the globe.

On the right is the volume of ALL air.

Quite sobering.

I really don't give a damn who's fault it is. I'm only interested in fixing it as well as possible.

I do not desire to be anyone's pawn in the process, by that which is being thrust into the problem by 'snakes in suits', which are the low empathy freaks who try to run roughshod over the planet..that is confusing the situation to a great degree. Which is where they want you to be. Confused. These snakes, they are the real problem - and always have been. It does not matter how they present themselves or where they hide, they are the same, everywhere. There are no parties or allegiances.

Either you are humane - or you are not.

It really is that simple.

The trick is discerning that in people, to separate the lies from the truth.

bye the bye... I do know someone who spent over a year in Antarctica so I have some direct information. For what it's worth.

Global warming or not, aren't we supposed to be acting as good shepherds?

The right wing screaming about global warming is usually quickly followed by how doing things to decrease emissions would slow 'economic growth.' Being "opposed" to global warming usually boils down to business - which should make one skeptical of the 'skeptics.'

Just so long as those Ayn Randers stay inland, it should be OK. That way, they won't screw up the good nice states....and Colorado.

These days so called 'Ayn Randers' seldom are. I have a suspicion that if Ms Rand was around today she'd be as concerned about global warming as anyone and would be pushing like mad for the expansion of green industry and opposing the scandalous subsidization of de-forestation that's running amok all over this planet.
As to claims that the financial mess we are in is anything to do with her philosophy, that's more than absurd. Rand, unlike her so called disciple, Alan Greenspan, saw no place for centralized banking other than to support of the Gold Standard.
And no, I'm not a Randian objectivist. In fact I simply advocate that the intellectual left put some effort into studying Objectivist philosophy if they're ever going to defeat the neo-cons ( & state capitalists such as the Chinese) and their ruthless and unsustainable exploitation of this planet.
No single ideology is sufficient to get us out of the mess we're in.

Absolutely , Buddha, we should be good shepherds.
Which is why we need to de politicize the GW issue and let the scientists work through their differing views on this.

There is scientific consensus that we do have anthropogenic climate forcings.
Scientists agree that there are 3 major categories:

1) man made aerosol emissions

2) landscape change

3) greenhouse gas emissions

The controversy between scientists is about the prioritization of these forcings and about how much climate change we are having and will have.

There is much discussion about how and where we measure the global average temperature.

Some scientists think we are risking the environment by placing all our attention on co2 and ignoring the other 2 forcings.

And of course we have solar activity as well.

The more I read from the scientific community the more it appears to me that the issue is far from settled.

It does appear there is consensus that man affects climate, the argument is about how much affect and which forcings are more important.

It really is a fascinating area to follow when one is able to get away from the politics and follow the science.

Here's another one that shows the complexity of the models, and how statistics and modeling can be manipulated (with regards to the origins of the data and the manipulation of said data) by the bias in groups or the bias in the relevant individuals that occupy key positions.

We all have the tendency to believe new things that fit our personal-internal models - which..is the essence of a good working Con Game. This is how they get you. To propose the data as 'hard won' or hard fought' by some semblance of fairness..and then you swallow it and it slowly becomes part of your personal backdrop of 'information that you internally live by' and thus gains foothold in that which is the basis of the emotional construct that is 'you'.

Hence the saying by a well known Jesuit priest of yore who said, "Give me a child until the age of 7, and I'll give you a Catholic for life".

This exact scenario plays out in every aspect of your life, where the model is re-enforced by those people around you that live in t as well. Their outlooks shape yours, in the same way that if no-one on a plane that is in danger is looking like they are panicking -- neither will you.

The trick is to create something that survives at least two generations and better if it survives three generations. This tactic has been used by powerful groups on aspects of truth and history for millennia. Thus the lie can enter the history books as an accepted and 'known' fact, and those who challenge it will learn that they will be prosecuted and attacked by their fellow man.

For example, few people know the truth of how pagan religions and Christianity were forced into a convoluted and invalidating (for both beliefs!) pairing in early AD times. Anyone who disagreed, was banished, silenced, killed..and all papers and works describing the truth and origins of the situation where burned, destroyed etc.

This tactic is still used today, in all political, war, ethnic, and ideological conflicts. The names of the perpetrators of the lies have changed a bit, is all.

For example, no Americans, for the greater part, can get a true picture of what happened in Iraq since about the date of 1990 or so. The horrors where unspeakable. Might ruin your support for your corporate rulership --if that where to happen.

In the given media system, we might hear about what OTHER countries are doing..IF that news show, paper, historical article, news conference, breaking story, or whatever illustrates a direction that the given 'control lever' utilized by the given group will herd the general populace into understanding and moving toward the desired direction.

For example, the nightmares perpetrated in Iraq since 1990 or so, are 100x worse than what is happening in Gaza right now, yet few Americans understand what is going on in Gaza, alone! They don't even remotely understand the roots of that issue or the depths of the lies. nevermind Iraq, Or..the debacle that was Vietnam.

If I want to get less biased and less manipulated North American news..I have to read foreign newspaper articles!

ALL north American newspaper articles, even scientific reports of all kinds (look to who fills the halls of the given organizations or academia and sponsors the given study, who finances them, etc, look deep!) have an inherent or forced bias upon publication. If you look closely for the few pertinent sentences you can even see the authors fight the enforced bias that can many times be thrust upon them for the 'privilege' of publication and distribution. You can even see the odd article from those who have 'broken away' from the system, and it is invariably the LAST article that they will ever be allowed to publish under this media control system that exists globally (in it's various guises and ways), these days.

Think about it, you have no problem believing (And correctly) that all the newspapers in Iran are state controlled and show the people only what the rulers want them to see..what insanity would have you believe that this does not exist in America? We always resist understanding being the one who is the pot, and is calling the kettle black. It's too painful to know we live lies, so we deny it. But we can see the reflection of it, of ourselves, in foreign newspapers, and in the observation of and in the reporting of the more remote situations.

Bush removed (and Clinton before-they tend to work for the same people. See what I mean - recognize the humanity in people, there are no 'parties'!) the controls on media ownership and now the media in the United States is so concentrated into so few hands that over 75% of all major media is controlled by a small tight knit group of 270 people. Who just happen to be on each others controlling corporate boards. Bet you didn't know that one....

In the process, over 85% of investigative reporters have been fired or beaten out of the system, as part of that relaxing of media ownership also contained a byword about 'truth' in reporting, which allowed newspapers and media sources to not have to adhere to the truth when reporting, so they were legally allowed to report lies and manipulation without any repercussions. Seriously. I'm 100% serious. look it up.

Here's a simplistic picture:http://www.mediachannel.org/ownership/chart.shtml

So it is easy to see, when you look at the value of the whole global warming scenario, with respect to how it can be utilized to push entire global ideals and entire societies and cultures around..you can begin to see the value in manipulating the Global warming data and information. Like the idea of creating a 'global' banking system (I mean really..they created the mess-it's the fox in charge of the hen-house telling you more lies-couched in terms you are liable/wanting to believe), it is another method to reaching the ideal of levering the entire wold as a single beast/thing.

And when you look at the different camps it comes from and the different tactics used, you can begin to see the real animal underneath that is perpetrating the lies for their own designs.

That is, IF you bother to look with NO emotional and cultural bias.

If you foolishly bring any bias of any kind to the table, then you will loose --- and they will win. The 'They' in the previous sentence is the beings who have zero qualms about manipulating entire societies into deep cultural bias and utilizing lies for emotional control of entire cultures and countries, if not more. See it for what it is.

That's the way it has always been.

In essence, it's then easy to see how the 'global warming' data and reporting can be and is manipulated for the gains and desires of the various camps.

The differing camps are much, much, much smaller than you think; As the manipulation and controls are more insidious than you think.

Oh yes, the article I found on the data collecting of global warming and it illustrates how difficult it is to form accurate models.

http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2009/01/090121144053.htm

There is great desire by these differing organizations within the realm of political influence being cast for the specifics of creation of laws to control things so that which I have just written for you to ingest would be curtailed to a great degree, so the United States (and Canada) can go back to believing what the 'big three' (ABC NBC and CBS) (and associated newspapers) were shoveling down our throats like they did in, oh, say... the 50's to 80's. (just framing a time period, for having some sort of relevance in the current world that you know)

What they desire, is complete control of the internet, so they can go back to that more simple and workable control model.

While I agree with most of your points I feel compellrd to point out that you have a unique way of stating the obvious as if it were not, in fact, obcious.
I regret to inform you that you don't have any secret knowledge

I hope you aren't too disappointed

Not at all. I'm just trying to show that NO, I'm not unaware of the realities of life; of being a 'monkey box' for what is ultimately something else. That my comments on this forum are not made from a state of being blindsided by myself or unaware, the opposite is true. However, we can all be manipulated by our own asses.

It is just that we need to all be constantly aware and constantly on guard of this.

That is the sticking point. For it is the LAST thing that most people want to do - and will literally fight to the death to avoid it.

So when people give me grief on this forum, I will take it for a while, I will constantly change tactics to attempt some form of hopefully illuminating illustration - but eventually I will take a pile of their poop and rub it liberally on their faces, and stand them in front of a mirror. For, as someone who is ultimately wishing the best for them - I'm not given much choice, when attempting to get a point across. I'm perfectly willing to have them do the same good thing for me.

Most people I know say, "fuckem', they're loosers, leave them in their stink. Why cover yourself with the same garbage, in the eyes of the casual reader?" they say. "You ruin your reputation by opening your mouth. Best to be silent and look smart."

Anyone who has even one whit of sense about them has to finally understand that things in and on this rapidly changing and shrinking globe - that there is very little left to do than something that has similar actions and repercussions.

The corners for reasonable people to back into and escape the madness are shrinking to the point of invisibility. As they always do. The pendulum shifts through action - not lack of it.

Ah, popularity polls!

OK.

Are we also validating the fact that only 43% of Americans wished to stay with a Republican President?

Are we on board with the rise in numbers of Americans who choose Democratic Congressmen and Senators?

18% of Americans approved of the job Bush was doing.

Where do you stand on evolution, since a dwindling number of Americans seem to buy into that charade?

Pretty amazing number considering McCain got 47 percent of the vote....

What is it with the left? Even when they win they have to fake the numbers.
