I would agree the PS1 is a surprisingly musical player. It needs more than a good pair of ic's IMO. Even though I typically just push play and listen the PS1 is about the clunkiest player I've come across for operation - even if I wanted to have a video monitor sitting in my system it would still be a PITA to operate. Despite doing many things quite well, my player eventually lost out to a Rega Apollo and the Sony is sitting in the closet waiting for a time that allows further experimentation.

Your point about it being a PITA to operate is certainly accurate.

I've asked for an Oppo 980 for X-mas, we'll see if I get it. It would serve multiple duty as a CD, SACD, DVD-A and upconverting DVD player if it comes true.

Meanwhile, it's the little Sony.
