If they have the same response then the on-axis cumulative spectral-decay plot and the panel resonance spectral decay plot would together suggest what might be obscuring detail. But very often, enhanced presentation of detail is the result of small boosts in response in the upper midrange.

Problem is that it is difficult to get truly meaningful results without access to an anechoic chamber. I have attempted to measure speaker distortion when I suspect something atypical is going on, but in general it can safely be assumed that small and inexpensive speakers distort more and therefore have a more limited dynamic range than large and expensive speakers.
