Factory authorized service centers never existed for WT. With the company not responding you have a few options. First, you can hold out for a response from WT or you can move the process along. I assume you would prefer the latter of those two choices.

You might try looking through back issues of Stereophile for past WT dealers anywhere near your location. See if anyone is willing to take on the job. Service centers within high end shops are a thing of the past but you might find someone familiar with the arm who is willing to help you out.

You can try the repair yourself. There's not much to rewiring a WT arm. It is packed with fine grain sand so you'll have a bit more "stuff" to deal with than other arms but the instructions on rewiring an arm are available on the web. http://search.yahoo.com/search?ei=utf-8&...nearm&type=

Typically you use the old cable as the pull wire for the new cable. Work carefully as you will reuse some parts of the old asembly.

You can search "vintage audio repairs" for someone willing to do this job. Here's a place to start; http://www.atlasaudiorepair.com/

You can also cruise the vintage audio forums - audio karma I believe is the current favorite - for someone willing to take on the job.

If you use outside help, ask lots of questions as there are too many people willing to take on any project for their own benefit (amusement?) but without any real knowledge of your needs.

Thanks Jan - This is very helpful. Would prefer to deal with the authorized WT people, because the website also has some stuff I'd like to purchase, but this gives me options. Many thanks,

Greg

I rewired my Well-Tempered TT a few years ago- for fun if you can believe it. Also for upgrading the wire and replacing old corroded leads and RCAs. I have a picture posted in the DIY Gallery section. DIY Image

As you can see I ran the wire on the OUTSIDE instead. I chose to forgo the assumed nightmare of completely dis-assembling the arm, cup, fluid, sand and everything else. It was difficult enough as it was because the wire I wanted had no leads and of course you also need to wire it to the back RCAs. I have to say, unless you are really comfortable doing microscopic DIY projects I'd look for alternatives. Stripping that lead wire was insane! It's like working on human hair just about. In the end it all sounded great as I upgraded to some very sweet Cardas wire and I replaced my old RCAs with better ones but still. Was not easy. I attached the wire on the outside of the arm with heat-shrink BTW. Added a minor amount of mass to the arm but nothing significant.

If you want to get into it I could help you out further, but as I said, it's not the easiest project IMO, and I love doing this kind of stuff.

I have finally connected with WTLabs. The contact information on their website is accurate, they just don't respond to all the emails and or voicemails they receive (?)

Anyway they are in the processing of repairing and upgrading my arm. All appears to have ended well!

Thanks to all.
