Think you might be over stating a little bit !!!
We are talking about systems that will likely cost $100k + and purchsed by the very rich. They are not exactly selling piano shaped Ipod docks for 9.99 !!
I think theres a big difference between leveraging a brand into vertical markets than whoring it out.
Alan
We already know her occupation. We are just dickering on price.
Are you allowed to dicker before paying?
If I pay $65000 for a 6-foot Steinway or $120,000 for a concert grand, I expect to by one of the "finest" pianos in the world and Steinway, at least for now, will make good that promise.
They ARE literally whoring the name when they throw together an expensive POS system and sell it to ignorant buyers whose only criteria for buying are name and price.
I don't think it's an over reaction.
Dave
I think this is a little like thinking the only way to do business is remain within a narrow traditional niche. That system, while I have not heard it, looks gorgeous down to very detail and spec.s out to be a first class system by any one's measure. How is that a bad thing? If it gets the wealthy to buy it and listen to more music recorded with Steinways maybe it helps it all go around?
In the end, they ARE a business- rare, old, perhaps the best, but they need to keep going. Using all they know about making music is a natural entree into reproducing music.
I think that making pianos and making audio are not complimentary at all. If that were so, it'd be designed by someone in Brooklyn rather than Germany.
I have no doubt, it will sell, but I think it's a poor use of the wonderful name and is unlikely to do anything positive for the reputation.

Yamaha makes speakers and gear.
Wes seemed to enjoy it.

Sure, he was secure that no one would expect him to buy it.

Which factory makes the better piano, Germany factory or the Brooklyn factory. McIntosh is coming out with a line of drums. This sounds like some marketing guy, could try to get some dollars out of the rich folks using the well known name. Gibson is gonna have a new line of bathroom fixtures.
Harley Davidson Computer cases?
It is functional.

Didn't they come out with a computer? I remember it was supposed to be better than other computers except that nobody used them.
Harley will put their name on anything, for a fee, as in pay THEM royalties, that's brand recognition....does the HD computer case purposely have a noisy hard drive and fan that rumbles? Why are McIntosh computers still so over priced, after all these years, like their retarded cell phones, for $600. Talk about hyped Nonsense....stuff in electronics and CE gets cheaper and cheaper while getting improved, Mcintosh is like Vinyl, high priced for no real reason, just cus' they do.
Even HD now runs price reductions, long gone are the days of paying more than list, which is RETARDED on any product anywhere. But so far HD bikes hold their p[rice as used, over any other bike...and they look teh BEST, works of art, not plastic crap racers...The Chrome and fit and finish is superior over the mass fi Honda, look close honda is underwhelming in it's fit and finish.....they do make a good lawn mower though.....
And pianos that are third tier out of five at best.
I was baby sitting once of their conservatory grands and it just left to its new home, a recording studio. It will be perfect there as pop and jazz players tend to favor a bright sound such as the Yamahas produce.
Excellent quality control however - they barely need tuning as delivered from the factory. Steinways often need a bit of adjusting as well as tuning.
Does it leak fluids?
Those cases are all chrome.
Harleys don't leak, old myths, never die. I have a 2002, perfect since day one...no problems ever, great stuff. A Piano steinway player said, when you get teh good Steinway, nothing comes close, it did take a 2nd entire piano to get a perfect one, teh guy went to the factory, seen his being made, they did replace his entire piano, now he says it's a perfect machine, at like $70,000, must be a thing of beauty. He did say Yamaha are very good, consistent, BUT, when you get teh perfect Steinway, nothing comes close, since Steinway is hand made each one is different. Most great piano players wnat Steinway don't they, cus of teh tone...like a great Gibson...tone baby....like the sound of a Harley, tone, nothing comes close.....
I don't mind this at all. I love the pianos. And if there is a company that knows about structure, resonance, rigidity, and listening to what they make, this would be a company that could do all that. From the short review it seems that they have really made a nice 'system'. Way too much money, but then again most things are in my life anyway....
Yeah, I know, they are just marking their territory.
Interesting that DUP has a Harley, why would he stick with an old slow version of technology ? The japanese make bikes that are far quicker, handle better, more efficient, cheaper, more reliable. They dont have snap crackle & pops like a Harley, the Japenese bikes have far more digital bits than the older analog Harleys !!
Could it be that the Harley has a certain charm that cannot be measured on paper ? could it be that DUP owns a Harley based on emotion and not specification ??? surely the DUPster is not a fraud ??
Say it aint so DUP
Alan
Harleys are a better bike, it has EFI, digital fuel injection, it also has a better value holding ability, over plastic ugly bikes made in Japan. do a sidde by side comparison of some Honda versus a Harley....even teh chrome is better on the Harley, All teh others copy teh Harley look, they know that is how a motorcycle should be, , Harley has a 125HP V rod, hardly anything old about it, time to update your facts, and points of reference....an educated consumer is a better consumer. Latest HD's have ABS, LED lights, everything modern up to date..where have you been?
Who supplies it?
A factor created by wannabe bikers and not quality.
I always base my decision on chrome and looking like an overweight underpower dinosoaur.
developed by porsche and still never competitive in AMA racing.
Harleys are much improved and outsource many of their improved components.
But then what do I know? I own two Ducatis, an Aprilia and a KTM.
HD just bought one of them...to expand their distribution in Europe. HD gets parts from suppliers just like car mfgs, same deal. They do a lot of their own stuff, in York Pa and the engine plants elsewhere, they do a lot of their own Chrome, painting is all theirs, which is a masterpiece of art HD paint is better than some car mfgs quality, they bend frames, weld tanks etc, interesting factory tour a while ago in York Pa. HD is the look and image all the copy cats go after. The make some great stuff, not plastic covered ugly engines on a frame, on an HD the engine is part of the beauty, not something to be covered up with plastic crap.
