I remember growing up in Aurora in the late 50's and riding my Schwinn down to Cook's Record Shop and going through, what seemed to me then, endless rows of record bins. Not having much money I would be going through all the 45rpm records (50 cents each and my equivilent of an mp3 download) ...find one or two that I liked and going into one of a dozen "phone booths" that had tiny little RCA record players so you could listen to what you wanted to buy in semi-privacy. Try doing that today.

Of course Gas was in the 20 cents a gallon range and milk was about 40 cents a gallon as well. 60 years later and the old vinyl is still alive and well. That is amazing.

If you can think of the titles, write them down in a file (use notebook or similar)..and search on Ebay (at times), you can find amazing stuff.

There is also a place that sells tons of music on the net. I record shop sales place, for all the dealers. I can't remember what it is called.

I tend to not go to those places..as my wallet and heart can't stand the pain.

I used to live in Windsor, across for Detroit. This means I used to drive over the border to "Car City Records" all the time. What an amazing store, 15 years back. I've no idea what it is like now. You'd go, for example, to the "Peter Green" section..and find 20 albums. Yet the guy only did, like, 5 or so. Coltrane? Maybe 50 albums or more. All mint, and amazing prices. The Jazz section alone, was the size of most entire vinyl stores.

When the dollar was worth much more and went much farther and Car City Records was a Mecca of sorts..I've driven over 700 miles - Just to go to that one store.

It really was that good.

Of course, there used to be used vinyl stores in Windsor that were at about 5000 sq ft.

All gone now.
