Very nice Doug! Your finishes look superb as well. Are you using lacquer?
RG
Thanks! I use only traditional tung oil (several coats, buffed between each time) and finally natural wax as a top-coat polish. IMO it wears the best and is most easily repaired if you get damage like nicks or dents.
I always wondered about those tungs. To they kill them, drain their noses, or do they milk them? How do they get Tung Oil?
As for neat toys, someone just gave me a Chord balanced Phono Preamp today. I've already taken it apart. Within 2 minutes of opening the shipping box..I had the circuit boards in my hands.
How cool is that? You do really nice work.
Thanks guys!
BTW: All tungs were extracted humanely by a cold-press process, heheh.
Actually, Wikipedia has this to say: "Tung oil is made from the pressed seed from the nut of the tung tree. Tung oil is considered a drying oil much as linseed, safflower, poppy and soybean oil. When applied, it provides a tough, highly water-resistant finish which does not darken noticeably with age as does linseed oil. This is not to say that it is a colorless finish; it still has a slight golden tint."
Totally not surprised, having seen your previous work in the gallery. I'm sure you'll soon have more stunning work to amaze us.
