Ooh, I can already see dbowker drooling over that Well Tempered. I'm sure it sounds fantastic. From what I hear, Opera Consonance is very involved with manufacturing of the Well Tempered, am I wrong? I'm curious to hear that Artemis TT, designed by Frank Schroeder! Good finds, Struts.
The table I'm most curious to hear & am keen to have Stereophile cover is the Spiral Groove, both SG1 & SG2:
And as for the new = better... I think often newer technologies do result in improvements. But I don't think it's NECESSARIILY for the better. Otherwise, there wouldn't be the Garrardians and Thorensites of the world!
Ditto.
I got to sit and listen to the Artemis with a Schroeder arm and the system it was in made GREAT sound.
Quiet backgrounds, and a real sense of "I can do that" with busy and dynamic passages.
The pulley system is very interesting and seems so well thought out I was wondering why someone hadn't done that before.
Really a fine table.
I kinda want it.
Actually, although I am curious about it, I would not buy it for at least the aesthetics. Way too DIY looking, and not in the good kind of way. That golf ball bearing idea has GOT be addressed! At least paint the thing black. It's ridiculous. It's fine to use another item for a new use, but not if it's immediately recognizable (at elast on a via commercial item IMO). I'm sure it sounds great, but it still looks like it's a prototype.
If I were lusting after a table I think it'd be one of those granite Space Decks. Now those are a work of art!
Space Deck
how about the 294 with the 12 inch arm?
I wouldn't use it as a rule
Word... I lusted after a Notty for probably 90% of the time that I was interested in a TT. If it weren't for the last minute surprise, I know I would've gotten the 294. That thing with a 12" arm looks SICK on a rack. Massive, all-purpose. I heard that Notty 294 with a Moerch DP6 12" rocks the house... the Ace Space 294 arm looks pretty, but from what I hear, is problematic & unreliable.
You're right Doug. The Spiral Groove kind of does have that DIY look, although I still like its look. No-nonsense, minimalistic. It's not that sexy, I give you that... kind of looks like a rice cooker in that picture now that I think about it. Like a TT made by Zojirushi.
Although I believe Doug was referring to the Artemis I think you're spot on about the SG looking like a rice cooker - although not a Zojirushi. They appear to have lifted the platter and clamp straight from one of these.
It does look like a rice cooker!
(I love my Zojirushi, pet name "rice pig" given its porcine appearance, complete with tail.)
Speaking of seperated at birth.
