Indeed! This is the first example I've heard of this, but let's hope it catches on. The return to vinyl can be a wonderful thing for music, in general -- something that all music lovers can benefit from, even those who prefer CDs -- and this is a fine example of what I mean.

I wonder what their thinking is, that only those that by the vinyl will appreciate better sound?

Even then, why not just master one CD and make it the best you can?

The strange thing is it's a pretty DIRECT confession by both the record company AND the band that they know the sound of the masters they are using for CDs suck.

While the engineers and labels are usually blamed for the uber-compression of modern pop CDs, its often the band that insists upon it; they want their CD to sound like this, they are are accustomed to this sound. It is hard to convince them otherwise.

Yep, that was something I was alluding to as well. I've been fortunate enough to hear 15ips tape dumped straight to CD with no EQ and no compression of some major, major artists and the sound is STUNNING. There is more tape hiss than what most people would expect or accept for that matter. However the "flow" of the music is so effortless and organic and I just sit there going "Ya, that's the stuff" like when I hear a live in person performance. The emotional level that the music hits me at from those CDs is something else and it pisses me off that I can't hear everything that way.
