Thank you Struts for passing along this rather sad news. I have been a fan of E.S.T. since their CD "Somewhere Else Before" was released in the US back around 2001 or so, on Sony no less. I never had the chance to see them perform but I do have the live DVD which was included as part of one of their later releases.
I always felt that The Bad Plus was the USA's answer to E.S.T. but with a more "rock" music orientation than E.S.T. I've been listening to E.S.T. on and off since I learned of Esbj
If you haven't already you might like to try E.S.T. Plays Monk, I find it is the one I keep coming back to.
I guess I should check out The Bad Plus. I saw your shadow review of Prog, is that a good place to start or would you recommend one of their earlier albums?
I have this recording, the only problem is I didn't get a chance to rip it to my hard drive and so it sits, unplayed, back in NJ while I'm here in The Hague.
I find all of their CDs to be equally good so just find the cheapest one and get that. However, be aware that some copies (but not all the copies) of their CD "Suspicious Activity?" contained the infamous "rootkit" software. Here's a link to help you identify if a copy of that CD has the "rootkit" software on it.
