Aw, man. Can you come in town like a week later? I've my thesis due on 4/7, so that week, I'm swamped. But hopefully other members will organize & get it on like Voltron.
I'm game for Friday
I can do Friday, also. I'd love to meet you, Lionel.
Thanks for suggesting this.
Friday works for me, as long as it's still early enough that I can stagger to Penn Station to get a train home to Philadelphia afterwards. My conference ends at 5:30ish-- it's more or less near Grand Central Station, if someone has a good idea of where to meet.
Stephen-- I'm emailing you my cell #.
That works perfect for me. How about The Ginger Man (11 East 36th Street, between Madison and 5th Avenue. It's close to Grand Central and within stumbling distance of Penn Station. They've got about 85,000 beers on tap, and it's named after one of my favorite books.
Today a rare sun of spring...
Our e-mail addresses have changed, by the way. Mine is stephen.mejias@sourceinterlink.com .
Why does listening to music, audio equipment always seem to entail excessive drinking, etc? Are these the ears that discern all these subtle nuances that only someone on too much alcohol hear? I attend dozens of live events and never do such things, maybe I do hear better, since I ain't numbed with alcohol....I'm not a tea totalr either, but don't get the mention of always needing alcohol for audio sessions, before or after. Not a very good endosrement for soemthing when you claim it sounded so good...maybe we need to know how many drinks where involved to reach this decision. Sounds great with 8 drinks, not so good with 3....
Personally, I prefer Majik Mushrooms before I audition equipment................................................................................................................................Oh, I'm sorry. What was the question? Heh.
Wish I were closer to NYC guys- sounds fun, and yeah the drinks'll soften the abilities of discernment, but oil the feelings of friendship and fun!
Ya need new friends if you need to be drunk to be with them, or call it fun. And i ain't no anti alcohol nudnick, I've had my share. Never had magic mushrooms.....is that a new cable for speakers?
Shoulda' done it Sunday, I was in NYC to see the autoshow....teh first thing that hits you in the ear drums walking in to Javitts Center.....the horrendous rapping hip-hop annoying shit...why do they do that..? Leaving a few hours later, it's still going....listening to that shit all day, has to make ya nuts!!! They didn't show a Bugatti Veyron I needed to see what $1.4 Million buys in a car!!!! Besides 1001 HP. The Benz was only $495,000 didn't look worth more than $200,000. I walked right past the Levinson display, nothing of interest there, might as well could have been Pioneer or Clarion. Who purchases are car based on what radio it has? Dumb.
Why don't you join us, DUP? I would love to meet you, too.
I will buy you a sarsaparilla.
Yeah dude. Come out. I'll buy you a Chimay Blue.
I keep forgetting you have almost no sense of humour. If you take everything so literally it will make you grumpy...
Doh! Too late.
Is Saspirilla still made, and what exactly is it anyway? Root Beer type stuff? I wonder where I am gonna be Frdiay, I work hre and there.....hmmmmm. I'm still looking for my birth place as I was born in NYC.......was it a Checker cab, or a Public Service bus to N.J.?
DUP, if you have a few drinks with friends, you are not necessarily getting drunk. You are just having a few drinks with friends. Music is music, sober, warm, buzzed, or commode-huggin' drunk. There are degrees to everything. And there is music for every occasion. That is what is great about music, friends, and drinks.
So, the plan is to meet up at the Ginger Man at around 5:30/6pm for a few. Nothing crazy, DUP -- just a couple of Friday evening drinks, maybe a cheese plate and a little talk of magic rocks or whatever.
Anyone interested?
What's the address again?
11 East 36th Street, between Madison and 5th Avenue.
cool! What time are we meeting there? I get out of work at 5:30. I'm downtown, so it'll take me half hour or so to get there. Is that good or are we meeting later?
5:30/6pm is perfect.
cool! see you there.
Rasberrys, I actually was in Mahwah , just across the river, but I got out toooo late , catch it next time, Penn Station is an easy train in it's the only way to go into Manhattan, bargain prices, NJ Transit....next time dudes.....
Great idea for a get together. I had a good time. I'm surprised to be experiencing a bit of a hangover today though. I didn't think I drank much. Didn't feel buzzed either yesterday. Hmmm...
DUP, you should have come out with us. Lionel is quite an entertaining guy. He's full of stories, some quite... unusual. Reads a lot too.
Revelation: Beer makes Jeff dance. I won't say anymore.
Revelation: Beer makes me susceptible to peer pressure. I won't expound on that either
Had a great time. Thanks for organizing this, Lionel and Stephen.
If it was draft..it could be dirty taps/lines...which is simple bacterial poisoning. Happens all the time.
Many places do NOT clean their tapes/lines, which can give you a very wicked seeming hangover from just a few beers.. but it is actually bacterial overload in the body, like you somehow ate a 2 week old hot-summer-sun squirrel corpse.
I like to paint pretty pictures for people's minds. Works well for the visualizers.
You know, you could be on the money. I've been pooping up a storm today as well.
Maybe bottle spirits are a safer bet!!! Even seltzer is bad news, did you see the news some weeks ago about the lemons or limes they have all kinds of bacteria on em, from not washing hands etc, cleaning utensils, hmmmmmm. But if you always ate perfect clean stuff, your body would grow weak, it would not be able to fight off things. So maybe a batch of bad food and drink does a body good once in awhile. Like a flu shot!! But does it have to continue for days, if it does Alex, you should get it looked into, in case it ain't getting worse and not better. A bacterial infection can be wicked, a good antibiotic should quench it, right? What's more agrivating, is you paid for the stuff, and it makes ya ill, that's like a double kicker.....Amazing there ain't much more food sicknesse lately the way things are going, all it takes is one person to not clean their hands and it spreads everywhere..... sucks being ill.
I'm ok now. Whatever it was, it was a very mild case. I remember the lemon thing. I always get seltzer with lemon, so that could have contributed. Then again, you can't be 100% clean 100% of the time.
I had a good time though. The conversations were fun, the place had lots of really cute girls, the food was good and the beer flowed freely.
I think it was the lemon. Trust me-- if it was an intestinal bug from the beer, I would have gotten it. In spades. Considering that the four of us polished off what-- four or five pitchers of Bass, I'd expect Stephen or Jeff to have gotten sick too if it was the tap line.
It was fun. And I managed to find my way to Penn Station, onto the right train, and into a cab home afterwards.
(And yes, the women were cute, but as I mentioned, musical taste is actually up there with looks as one of the items on my checklist. If my wife hadn't been a music major who owned as many CDs as I did, I'm not sure it would have lasted the nearly 10 years it has so far...and from the kind of tunes the women in that restaurant were picking, I'm not sure they're in the same league.)
That's ok. They made up for it in looks. Me: "hey sweetheart, you keep looking the way you're looking and I will love you even if you're tone deaf. I'm not like those other guys who only love you for your musical talent."
What a great time. Who knew that we would end up dancing on tables and singing punk rock love songs to beautiful women?
Who knew Jeff wore a g-string?
I'm glad I wasn't the only one who saw that.
I tried not to look, but it's like seeing an accident and you try not to stare, but you just can't help it. It's one of those things.
I thought it was pretty sexy.
I tried to avoid that whole situation that could so easily turn into a sexual harassment case.
