Hope you are doing OK, amigo.

My best wishes are going out to you as you struggle through your time of pain.

I recommend you turn to alcohol and promiscuity for solace. Used to work for me.

Can you go hang at Stephen's and play some vinyl? That will help, too.

Buddha,

He can't play vinyl. He lost the ear pads to his Grados. Weren't you paying attention? Must you pour salt over the guy's wound?

AlexO, thanks. I hadn't really grasped the epic scale of human suffering that was going on.

I heard the Fed was so upset about this situation that they lowered interest rates by 50 basis points.

It's so bad, John Edwards and Rudy Guliani have dropped their campaigns to assist in the search.

Here at home, we are planning austerity measures until the crisis is resolved.

I'm glad you've finally been able to see the situation clearly. I think that a little bit of sensitivity on your end will go a long way towards alleviating unnecessary pain.

Park Avenue Audio at 425 Park Ave So. is a Grado dealer. Grado themselves are just over in Brooklyn. John G. would love to help you out too I'm sure.

Ariel never posted a follow-up. We haven't heard back from him all day.

I wonder if Stephen could stop by Ariel's place and check on him. You know, make sure he's OK, try to keep him from doing anything drastic.

Sorry guys,

I've been doing homework (I know my day just keeps getting better). But then I went to my personal recording studio (i.e. my computer + guitar) to do some music therapy, got the adrenaline flowing. It worked out nicely.

Thanks for the condolences. I'll probably just head to Sound by Singer within the next few days when I get the chance. Life has been sad listening to my Sony MDR-V150s. It s strange, you don't realize how awesome a piece of equipment really is till you listen to something for worse. I used to think these Sony's rocked, and to some extent they do. But i love my grados.

My dealer lent me an NAD C315 for a weekend while I was waiting for my Brio to return from California. It's a nice little amp, but, wow, did I ever miss the Rega!

I'm just glad I didn't get the Majik-I for the weekend!

I will say that my time spent without the Rega was difficult. I hope I never have to do that again. Really, there's nothing more depressing than an empty shelf and loose bananas.

Talk about a perfect product endorsement!

Great description of how you relate to a component.

They should use your story for an ad!

No sympathy here. I have been working away from home for about 2 1/2 months and living out of a hotel room. My only source of music is provided by the classic rock station in our rental car. To make things worse the lead engineer on the project plays in a nerd classic rock band and has to provide accompaniment to all of the instruments and vocals playing on the shitty factory audio system. When I questioned him on his narrow range of music (70s and 80s hits), he replied that he liked complex music that isn't available currently. How can someone so increadably smart be so dumb?

Ouch- that DOES sound painful cyclebrain! But have you thought about an iPod and noise cancelling headphones? If not for the rental car then at least when you're back in the hotel... Next time make sure the car has a CD player!

I may have a worse music situation to share though! Goes back to high school (long time ago) when I worked as a dishwasher at a greasy spoon diner, and the in-ceiling speaker was RIGHT over my head- and it either played lite adult contemporary, or Fresh Air new-age music. No, I'm not kidding. This would be for 6 hour shifts, and needless to say it drove me insane!!! Plus at the time I was into grungy post punk stuff so it could not have been further from what they were playing!

HAHAHA- man do you pay your dues when you're a kid. Now I work from home, and if I want, I can keep that platter spinning all day with my own stuff on a truly sweet sounding setup. Gotta love love that!

That's a great point, Ariel. Sometimes you have to remove a component from your system to gain a better understanding of what that component offers.

Buddha, are you quoting Amy Grant?

Wait, or is that Counting Crows? Janet Jackson?

No, I was quoting Ice Cube from "Today Was a Good Day."

"...With the seven, seven-eleven, seven-eleven
Seven even back do joe
I picked up the cash flow
Then we played bones, and Im yellin domino
And now I am yelling dominoes
Don't it always seem to go
that you don't know what you got
till it's gone..."

Joni Mitchell, Big Yellow Taxi (1970)

It's been covered by Amy Grant, Counting Crows and many others - including Dylan

"They paved paradise
And put up a parking lot
With a pink hotel, a boutique
And a swinging hot spot
Don't it always seem to go
That you don't know what you've got
Till its gone
They paved paradise
And put up a parking lot"

No, the Dolly Parton quote is: "It's been a long time since I've seen my shoes."

When Dolly leaves us, it's been determined that there will be 6 pallbearers. 3 abreast.

So I finally made it to some free time yesterday and was walking around doing errands. I remembered I was right next to Stereo Exchange. I went in and asked the guy at the register if they carried Grado. They did and hooked me up with a new set of earpads. I woke up this morning and listened for hours. a happy day

Well, that's great news!

I will stop wearing all black.

Welcome back to the world of full color!

Do the new earpads sound any different than the old ones?

I wonder what the break-in time of the new pads will be.

Keep us posted as the new earpads settle in.

Cheers!

Pheww! Welcome back to the wonderful world of music, Ariel.

The April issue's "Recommended Components" shipped...er, FTP'd to the printer Friday. A belated thanks for your help with the database and price checking.
