Tough year to call, for me.
I'll go with (in no particular order)....
David Olney - One Tough Town
John Doe - A Year In The Wilderness
Richmond Fontaine - 13 Cities
Spoon - Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga
And, not to be overly into the name of the disc: Buddha Bar IX. The Buddha Bar discs are my favorite "lounge music" series, with some really sublime cuts. Buddha Bar VII is probably better, but IX came out this year.
(On deck, because I haven't bought it yet..."I'm Not There," the Dylan 'tribute'/soundtrack disc I've been hearing good things about.)
Here's 5 (including two re-issues). I don't think I could have come up with 10 this year:
1-"Chrome Dreams II"--Neil Young
2-"Washington Square Serenade"--Steve Earle
3-"Comicopera"--Robert Wyatt
4-"Goodbye Nashville Hello Camden Town"--a pub rock anthology
5-"Some Things Just Stick In Your Mind"--Vashti Bunyan
Thanks for starting the thread.
Same here!
I'm hoping I forgot some and the people who post will remind me!
Okay some reminders based on the votes so far - guessing the "median forum taste"
Peter Case - Let Us Now Praise Sleepy John
Feist - The Reminder
Wilco - Sky Blue Sky
Iron & Wine - The Shepherd's Dog
The Hold Steady - Boys And Girls In America
Grinderman - Grinderman
Joan As Policewoman - Real Life (this year?)
Josh Ritter - The Historical Quests Of Josh Ritter
Lucinda Williams - West
and Bright Eyes, Modest Mouse, Rilo Kiley, Stars, Elliot Smith, The Shins, The New Pornographers, Nick Lowe's best album ever, PJ Harvey, The Triffids re-issues, Ry Cooder's best in 20 years. That was off the top of my head - I'm sure I've left lots out.
I thought it was a great year!!!!
My problem is that almost all my favourite albums of 2007 were actually released in 2006. Inside In/Inside Out - The Kooks, Whatever People Say I am - Arctic Monkeys, Tired of Hanging Around - The Zutons, Eyes Open - Snow Patrol, ...
That is the problem when you get to my age, time starts speeding up!
the "Rodrigo y Gabriela" album kicks some serious booty.
Well, I like the Wilco album and Icky Thump. Is there a thread for particular albums listened to to enjoy your system at its best? If there is such a thread, Id put Illinois (Sufjan Stevens) in it, even though its not a 2007 release.
Sufjan Stevens, a real character.
Excellent sounding recording.
