Erik, do you have good headphone and a good headphone amp?

your late night listening wouldn't have to be so quiet and you can put together a world class system for a fraction of the price of a speaker based system.

Oh, and you don't need watts, lotsa watts, watts, watts to drive teh phones
:-)

I suggest you get 3 or 4 inexpensive FoculPods (Parts Connection has them, $5.00 each IIRC) for footers. They're semi-sticky and so will keep the player from slipping around.

For me the usage of an aftermarket power cord and FoculPod footers with my (then) Jolida JD100 CD Player was the difference between "just OK" and "Wow!"

I would take pics, but all I have is my crappy VGA cell phone camera. I would invest in a digital camera, but I'd rather have a turntable. So, you see my problem.

I'd love to have a head amp and some good 'phones, but I want a turntable more. (Note the similarity to my answer to Jackfish's question).

Thanks, though!

Thanks! I'll look at those. I've been thinking of replacement feet, but most of them seem to be silly-expensive for what they are. $5 is reasonable, though.

Good call.

I have similarly modded my TiVo recorders with self-adhering damping sheets (not 3M's).

I put as much as I could get on the inner top lid, on the hard drive (careful not to block the holes), bottom where there isn't something attached, etc.) They previously hummed and transferred this hum to the shelves supporting them (basic TV stands). No more hum and no more vibration.

Dampening sheets are great!

Did the tweek to my 970. Only difference is I put the sheets inside the chassis, right under and around the transport. MUCH quieter.

Thanks Erik

Want an even cheaper Oppo tweak? ...FREE, in fact? It will make your oppo (whatever model) more dynamic and open! Simply remove the ferrite bead on the power cord (the lump up by the oppo end), or use another cord that doesn't have a ferrite bead attached. If you don't like the result, you can always go back to the cord with the ferrite on it. Try it!

I dampened my DV-980HD this weekend and wrote about it at my personal site here . And yes, there are pictures!

I hope this helps you curious folks. It's really easy to do and doesn't take much time at all.

Yes, they are. I had just been thinking about using them on my equipment when I read these posts. I'll have to try them on my Tivo HD, as well.

. . . just don't spend more tweaking the thing than it costs.

Oh, no! I did.

I added a 3xS/PDIF output to my 980H so I could connect it to the Meridian 861's digital inputs. I think it was worth every penny, even for a temporary fix.
