The high res DTS 5.1 recording of Sting's Ten Summoner's Tales is a DVD-A. You are correct that even down-mixed the program material will be of better quality than that of an ordinary CD as DVD-A has up to a 192 kHz sampling rate contrasted with 44.1 kHz with a CD.

The DTS Entertainment version of this title is not quite the same as a DVD-A. It can be played on "any CD or DVD player with a digital output that feeds the DTS soundtrack to the 5.1 DTS-capable surround processor." Which would be downmixed on your Oppo if you are not feeding signal to a 5.1 processor.

Either way, you will not be hearing 5.1 24 bit/96khz or stereo 192 khz DVD-A. You will be hearing DTS 5.1- like a movie track without the video. It's a hi-res 20 bit process, but not as clean, to my imperfect ears, as my DVD-Audio discs. There's a slight glare on the top end you don't get with DVD-A (at least on my "non-reference" system) and I find them slightly fatiguing. But for less than $20 bucks you can try for yourself. This is one of the better DTS discs I have, so you'd probably like it. If my wife wasn't in love with the dude, I'd send you mine.

haha

I understand the attachment; I'd be like Charlton Heston with my CD - "from my cold, dead hands"

Thanks for the info!
