dunno. I am inclined to go with your logic since its just operating in the digital domain.

I recently recieved a Squeezbox and run it into a behringer deq2496. the dac in the behringer (AKM AK4393) is probably as good if not a little better than the squeezebox, especially in the bottom end. I use it for RTA and auto-equalization as it is quite a good little unit for that.

given the entry-level of my gear especially speakers, im not sure how much a power supply upgrade would effect the sound for me.

I do have experiance using a SLA battery in the form of car jumpstart kits, to power a modified T-amp. This little tweak really made a difference over regular AA batteries, and over a very cheapo wallwart IMHO.

I think using SLA batteries from car jumpstarters is an intreagueing cheap and even practicle (the unit themselves are practicle) tweak. Perhaps I should post a tweaks question. My understanding is that this should be an extemely "clean" power source.

Maybe I'll plug the squeezebox into it, i'll give my case report latter

oh crud, where is my in-browser spell check? thats what i get for using opera this morning

qdq,

The following might be of use/interest

http://www.enjoythemusic.com/magazine/equipment/1205/slimdevices_squeezebox.htm

Windzilla,

I have a T-Amp, but I'm not sure how to use a "SLA battery in the form of car jumpstart kits" to power it. Would you mind (a) recommending a particular battery, (b) indicating where such a battery could be purchased, and (most importantly) (c) how to "hook up" the T-Amp and battery.

Thanks,

radish

I suggest you search the Slimdevices "Audiophile" forums where this topic has been beat to death by actual users of various upgraded power supplies, still with no agreement on the subject.

Of particular note, many complained the standard switch mode power supply induced noise into the rest of their system, and switching to an inexpensive ($9.00 to $20.00)linear supply cured this. Beyond this I personally don't see any logic in spending triple the cost of the Squeezebox for a power supply.

I personally made the described switch above even though I had no noise issues with the standard PS. Some reported an improvement in SQ with a linear supply and for 20 bucks I figured what the hell, give it a try. In my system, with the Squeezebox feeding a DAC, I hear no difference.

As always, YMMV.

SLA refers to Sealed Lead Acid. power is generated through a controlled reaction, and the amount of Amps available to the T-amp at any one time is more than enough. The reason i tried it on my t-amp is because I had one of these already because I wanted it for its intended use. I figure that a battery should produce a very clean and controlled power source (vinnie T at red-wine audio uses SLA in his Chip amps i believe)

anyway you can get them at walmart here is a link to one online.

the bonus is you get an air-compressor a work-light a portable power source and a jump-starter, so if the hi-fi doesn't take to it maybe your car will

Crap and Decker (funny me) with AC output

pep boys, jumper and compressor, DC out 25 bucks
You can also find, much smaller jump starters that offer DC lighter sockets, with a cheap adapter from radio-shack you can feed the AC directly to your unit. plus it's easy to hide.

cheers!

PS i think there is a pick of my setup in the galleries somewhere.
