I would think you could put the sucker on repeat and easily hit the 200 hour mark prior to your 30 day return period?

Then again there is a possibility the unit is defective.

Then again there is a possibility the unit is exposing some less than desireable performance from your pre/proc.

But in the end it would seem an easy decision. If your not happy....send it back. I would not "hope" for anything!

Hello rg,

Thanks for your input. Obviously, I have a budget system, which I put together for less than some people spend on cables. My "pre-pro" is actually a Kenwood Dolby Digital receiver purchased in 2000 which was later rebadged a "Sovereign" the next year. It puts out 120 watts/channel into 6 ohms, which is the impedance of my full range Wharfedale Evo and Opus suite of speakers. It runs dead quiet at full tilt. With the Kenwood Sovereign DVD-A&V player I got exquisitely clean. neutral and dynamic playback on 2 and multichannel DVD-A discs. Steely Dan, Don Fagen, Talking Heads,Miles Davis,Buena Vista Social Club, Cannonball Adderly, Linkin' Park, Deep Purple, R.E.M.- you name it- it played them well beyond the expectation of the price points involved. Lots of air on the top end, a sweet mid-range and musical bass from a Wharfedale SW 300 sitting on a polished slab of granite. My big room is acoustically blessed also. Asymmetrical cathedral ceiling, thick carpet, lots of room for optimum speaker placement. Then my second Kenwood digital player took a dump and I decided to get the Marantz Uni player and fill in my ever evolving vinyl and digital collection with some SACD titles. Yikes, my ears are bleeding! It has been on repeat for several days now and it seems like it's getting worse. My iPod (songs recorded at 256 kbps) sounds cleaner on my Monitor mini system. I'm bummed. I hate to be one of those disgruntled, picky people who sends stuff back, but I'm shocked by how much better the Kenwood sounded than the Marantz. Too bad Kenwood has abandoned home audio for car and radio. I'm not saying it's hgh end, but it worked. I recently read a mediocre review (Thomas J. Norton- Ultimate AV) of the Marantz DV-9600 audio performance -and that's their flagship universal player, so I'm not hopeful anymore.
