This has got very little to do with the amplifier and a lot to do with the speakers.

Unless you want a separate amplifier for other purposes, the active version of the speakers will you give better sound quality and will be significantly cheaper. In your price range ($500-600) however you have a number of active monitors that will probably offer you better sound quality than the Alesis but to find out you will probably need to go to a music shop and listen to a few.

If you want loud and clear and are not bothered about nice wooden cabinets then you are likely to get more for your money from proaudio monitor speakers.
I suggest that you buy an active (amplifier built into the speaker) proaudio monitor speakers or active PA speakers. This way you can connect your CD player or mixer directly to the monitors and you will not need an amplifier.
There are lots of options out there. You may want to start by looking at websites of suppliers like Sweetwater and Musician's Friend. If you have a local Guitar Center they will have these sorts of things on display and understand what you are trying to do. Sweetwater has a staff of salespeople ready to consult at any time -nice, knowledgeable people and non-pushy.

Don't know what a bedroom DJ really means, but if you literally mean you listen in a bedroom, then based on the dimensions of a normal bedroom, the small size will have a negative impact in accurate low frequency reproduction.
