Are you referring to the Ortofon SME30H? If so, I can look it up tonight.
EDIT: For the SME30H, Ortofon says (1) Optimum tracking force is 1.25g, (2) Use the black paddle in the fluid damper.
I agree with (1) but usually push it up a bit. I also used the counterweight shift on the right side in order to permit easier balance/setup. (Later, I had some special weight spacers machined so I would not need to do this.) I also put in a less viscous silicone fluid.

Is that the "Concord jet" looking model 30?
If so, the manufacturer's recommended tracking force is 1.25 to 1.75 grams, but I'd go toward the 1.75.

yes, I would say it's the concorde model 30. many thanks. I used to have it set around 1.5, but one record I played messed everything up. I have been trying every position from 1.5 to 2.5 (which seemed to work best). I will go back and test the setting and alignment again, and if it doesn't work, may go back to a different stylus, for which I may ask your advice again.
