I can't speak for the Monitor Audio Silver Series, but I know the Paradigm Monitors to be very accurate and musical. In my opinion, you can't really go wrong with Paradigm.

Thanks for your insight Erik. Do you have experience with Paradigm? The 9s or 7s? I am going to use them for HT and Audio. Will they perform well in both arenas or are they better for one particular application. My musical tastes are all over the place from classic rock, present rock, punk, acoustic, alternative. Also, do you suggest using their subwoofer to complete the set or another brand (thinking SVS)? Thanks again.

My primary speakers are 7se Mk.III's, which are the granddaddies of today's Monitor 7. I've had them for years and love them. They always reward me for upstream improvements.

I've heard Paradigm's new Monitors. The listening I did was not critical because I wasn't shopping for speakers, but Paradigm never fails to satisfy me. I also have a pair of Atoms (the smallest Monitors, but equipped with the same tweeter/midrange) in my upstairs system.

It's my belief that a good speaker is a good speaker, so I'm confident that the 7 and the 9 will be very competent with both music and soundtracks. Bass extension is enough for my purposes, but you might consider pairing them with a subwoofer for movie night. I should mention that my primary focus is music (probably 90:10). I don't know how important it is for a sub to be timbre-matched to the mains, but that might be something to consider. If you stay in the Paradigm family, you're guaranteed not to have issues with mixing two different house sounds.

I wish I had something useful to say about Monitor Audio, but I just haven't had a chance to hear them. I'd certainly like to, though.

Good luck and keep us posted on any further questions/concerns/decisions!

Also, welcome to the forum!

That's a tough choice. I heard the monitor audio line and I was really impressed. I was equally impressed with Paradigm stuff. I think Monitor silver series is a bit more detailed, and the Paradigms are a bit fuller. It's a tough call though.

Probably multi for HT, but now I don't know. I might just try and build a 2-channel set up for now and then expand later.

If you are keen on these I would advise on testing in-situ. I have the RS8s and they are very bassy - in smaller rooms it can be overwhelming - also they need a bit of space around them.
