Why not use the computer you used to write your post?

It's not mine and I'm sure you won't tell anyone I'm on my afternoon break.

I've seen the Marantz CDR-510 at a mail-order price of $900.
Don't really know much more on the subject.

Thanks, that is the particular model I'm looking at but there's not much info out there on the subject. I'm hoping for more responses on this or any other one that someone is satisfied with.

The requirement that it have two drives is very limiting. What do you plan to do with it?

If duplicating CD's, I would just read up on good computer software for ripping and copying, and use your computer.

If you want to record analog signals a great choice is a dedicated mastering recorder like the Alesis Masterlink.

Sony makes a basic unit with a 5 cd changer and recorder for about 250.00. It had some problems with cd/rw but never on cd-r. Recording quality was decent.

My wife runs a voice studio. I bought a couple of brands in the past and they don't last. She pretty much destroys everything, they are used every day. The last one we got was a Tascam 750 or 500 or whatever the standard unit is. One well. This has worked really well in the daily use mode and rarely errors out. A big improvement over the consumer models. I researched and the lower end pro Marantz is supposed to be a dog.

Thanks Pjay, that's a big help! I'll check out the TASCAM models. I guess that's why I've seen a few Marantz demos at reduced prices, although it is suprising of Marantz since they tout it as a "pro" model.
