If I had a bunch of money, I'd buy that old amp, clean it up, and display it as industrial art. As long as I'm rich, I'll take a pair of Ayre MX-R monoblocks for my active-duty system.

dup, you are an ass!

Come on, Stephen, you should be able to figure out what's going on here. So, now it's allowable go after someone else's system just cause you feel like it? There is only one reason for dup to post this. What is the breaking point here, Stephen?

dup, check the current recommended components, "Tube amplifiers, Class A". Did I mention you're a complete blathering idiot?

Huh? I brought this up cus' I said McIntosh sure do hold their value, electricly I'm sure they are lacking? Do you really think this old amp has the sonic performance of a modern FAST MODERN amp? Capacitors age, insulations age, tube sockets start to arc. Tubes generate a lot of heat (wasted energy) the heat deteriorates stuff. MODERN materials are of course more stable, more imune to deterioration. Why only in AUDIO is old something to embrace? If you had an old 1962 refrigerator, you would be foolish to use it, inefficient, energy waster, etc. What would be a cool experiment is to send it in to McIntosh, ans see what they come up with after testing, what they think of the merits of old. McIntosh does support their stuff for sure. But even McIntosh makes modern stuff.

What? Jan has one of these? That's not cool, Carl. Other than Showflash's attempt to trash AVA, I don't remember people here being critical of your favored gear. Some personal opinions should be kept personal.

I now regret having said that I would keep the Mac around as an art piece. My apologies, Jan.

Even Old AVA is just that OLD, obsolete. Newer modern AVA have faster ckts, improved everything. Why do people think that only AUDIO things never improve, that the old stuff is better. It's not, it's just OLD. Even old cheese evenutally goes bad, wine turns to vinegar, old houses tumble. Even CHROME plating has improved over how it was done 45 years ago...Look at old Harleys, new ones are BETTER.
