What would you suggest from here?

I love the Arcam Solo but I am also starting to think about the "next step" in amplification. I dream about Mark Levinson but I understand the company was sold and a lot of the old timers are gone. My audio consultant suggested Macintosh Audio but I am not sure as I don't know that much about their products.

I am thinking that my next integrated amplifier would not be over $5K in cost and was wondering what other people here might recommend (I have Paradigm Studio 100 speakers)

I would suggest you take your time, enjoy your music on your new rig, and allow yourself to find out what, if anything, you think is lacking in what you're hearing. Amplifiers have characteristic "sounds". When you can tell your audio consultant what you're seeking he'll be better able to make suggestions for auditioning. Then, audition in your home, and trust your ears. There's a wide range of good stuff in the price range you've established, but don't be in a hurry to shop until you know what you're shopping for.

I'm a fan of the AVI Laboratory Series integrated. I haven't listened to it extensively, but I like what I've heard. It has plenty of clean power for your Studios and doesn't break the bank (I believe it goes for about $3600). If you enjoy the Levinson aesthetic, then you'll probably appreciate this piece because it's built like a tank and the fit and finish are excellent. It's also available with a phono module, which would be a cool upgrade if you decide to get into vinyl (Do it). If I had the money, I'd definitely go audition the AVI. I've heard good things about Simaudio, as well.

Happy listening with your new dynamic duo! I'm a Paradigm owner (7se Mk3), so you're alright with me, Rich!

Glad to have you here,

Erik

I went straight to the product recommendation, but you should listen to Clay, too! It'll be easy to find something different from the Arcam, but you might not prefer it. I agree that you should kick back and spend some quality time with your gear (as I'm sure you have), and see if you really find it lacking. If you love it, then keep on loving it! As fun as it is to buy new stuff, it's even better to forge a relationship with what you have. But I'm a sentimental guy, after all.

Re: What would you suggest from here?

Thanks guys..I am kicking back almost everynight and listening to some great hi-fi ! The Arcam still impresses me and I like it a lot. I am going to experiment with hooking up my sub this weekend.

It's easy to "get the bug" but Ches is right..I'll let my ears be the judge and right now they are saying "Yipee" ! I have stopped listening to my classic rock collection because the recordings are not meant for hi end hifi but the Jazz that I have is knocking my socks off. Some of these recordings from the 50's were recorded extremely well and translate to CD excellent in sonic performance. As for making the move to vinyl some day maybe but I have permenet ringing in my ears from my time in the Air Force and have a high end frequency loss so I am a bit at a handicap. This forum is great to listen to other audiophiles..thanks again
