Rdrcr,
As Jim points out John Marks is an organ aficionado. If you browse through the archives of his column "The Fifth Element" on this site you will find plenty of recommendations.
Among his most recent were In Spiritum and Organ Fireworks Vol. XI, both of which are excellent.
I would recommend Amazon Marketplace, where you can get premium discs new at excellent prices, as a source. Some of the volume sellers are both reputable and reliable. I have been particularly happy with the service from Caiman whose prices generally lie below half of list.
From my previous post I am going to a organ recital at Emory University this Sat 1PM at Emerson Hall to hear the huge Jaeckel OP45 organ in person. I had to miss the performance this past Sunday for special Easter choir rehersal at 4pm at our church. I AM NOT MISSING THIS ONE.
There is also a following Piano Recital at 4pm I will also attend.
Sometimes life is good. And other times.... EH!
Wow!
Thanks guys, this will keep me busy for a while.
I have some music to buy!
Thanks again,
Mike
Well, I get to hear great organs every Sunday, and since then I've become an addict. ( http://first-church.org/organs.htm ). First of all are you familiar with the PRI program pipedreams that features different organs every week? ( http://www.pipedreams.org ). A very fine program. I also think you need to invest in the organ works of Dietrich Buxtehude. I haven't heard enough different recordings to make a specific recommendation, but I do recommend a Propius release called Antiphone Blues which featurs pipe organ and sax together. Very nice indeed.
