I wonder if there's some kind of restriction in place to protect Linn dealers so that they're guaranteed some kind of exclusivity to performing setups for Linn customers.
I don't know whether Linn could legally prevent someone from doing a video any more than they could legally prevent someone from writing an article about their opinion about how the Linn should be set up. Of course, if any manufacturer decided to make a legal stink, it's somewhat doubtful that the person making the video would want to go through the expense of defending in court.
That aside, a Linn setup video would be quite cool. Just for informational purposes. I've no doubt a good dealer would still be able to do a much better job.
I'm assuming from this thread that Mikey does not get into the LP12....any guesses as to why....just the most popular high end TT ever!!
Still worth me buying the DVD as an LP12 owner?
The Linn doesn't have enough mystical propertys, and it don't cost gross amounts of too much money. it's a simple basic TT, don't you know TT needs elaborate arms and blocks of magic granite, and digital displays? How can a basic platter with a motor on a belt meet his wild outlook on playing a record. Which came first teh Linn or the AR XA/XB TT's back in the early 60's or late 50's? My first AR TT was $67. without cartridge, used it for 20 years!!!! changed the belt and foam once. or twice. Now in the 21st century it takes $100K to paly a record? Or teh cheaper $80 rockPort, riiiiiiight. Does a $100K TT stop the clicks and snaps of a dirty scratched record? Imagine spending $100K and hearing, snap!!! hmmmhomie don't think so.... does the $100K TT include a plastic demagnetizer? Nooo? Oh that's another $1800...!!!!! It has to be a goof, just to see if someone believes any of the concepts?
I don't think you're going to learn anything from it. It's just something to watch, just like Stereophile is something to read on the train. That said, if you're into vinyl, you'll probably like it. Just some simple, sane advice on tt setup. He's trying to get people involved, not scare them away.
Why didn't he get involved in setting up a Linn? Who knows. It's too specialized for a video like this, I think.
True.As an ex Linn user,i agree with that.There is no way to make a dvd about lp12 setup and not scare ppl away.It can
be done,of course but i quess it will make things look simple when actually are not.It needs patience (lots of it)
and prefferablt best setup by a dealer.The reason i got rid of it is you spend days fine tuning it and in the end,you are not 100% sure what you did was right.You allways feel down deep inside that you've set it up wrong.
Thanks for the feedback. I'm going the dealer set-up route as I'm lucky enough to have one a few miles down the road and he's found me the used table.
If I have a few $$ left it should prove good entertainment by all accounts....vinyl listening will come first for now!
