I think that's cool stuff.
I always wondered how one of those foam "egg crate" mattress covers would compare.

Sonex is much more fashion friendly. I have a friend in Huntsville who was an engineer at the Space Center (so was his wife) who used it in his large, $50K+ home theater room with great results. The room looked great as well.
Most saw the panels and did not know what they were for, but did not seem to be bothered by the color-matched appearance. The corner bass traps seemed to do a great job.
My wife has so much furniture, Steinbach NutCrackers on shelves and a vaulted ceiling that parallel walls are not present in our livingroom listening room. My office is another mattter. Square and small (12 ft+)...bass traps are needed.

Eh. I used them for a while and they were somewhat effective for mid- to hi- absorbtion but did little in the bass. In addition, my wife absolutely hated them as they were (and still are) too industrial for her. She picked the cover fabric for the OC703 and OC705 panels I use now and they fit the decor much better.

Jim, I thought you would be a little more cautious than this. Throwing out a reference to room treatments and risking reawakening Ethan Winer and possibly May Belt. You saw what happened when Scooter innocently tossed out the subject of "cons." God save us from another session on comb filtering etc.
Incidentally, they're ugly, Jim, very ugly. Better to suffer a few room reflections or stick with headphones until you can find something less ugly.
I know. but the thought of tearing the sides off my refridgerator and hanging them on the wall was less attractive. At least for right now.

I thought of trying these, but thought they were somewhat pricey. Did the price drop?
I have tried a different tweak. I put an area rug on the wall behind the speakers at one time. The rug improves the imaging, but changes the tonal balance - too much bass left after absorbing the mids and highs unevenly. I guess using any absorbing panels would need the use of some measurement of the room response or it's trial and error, mostly error, in my experience.
I've even experimented with different things on the wall between-behind the speakers, such as towels, felt around the edges of the cabinets, etc. But the area rug (about 8'x10') works the best of those I tried, but I think not good (balanced) enough.
