Hi, and welcome!
The good news is that with those two lines, it's basically a "no lose" situation.
I'd pick the piece that has the better local store, or maybe offers generous trade-in value if you'd ever want to upgrade.
The additional cost of one item could be created by higher quality parts almost anywhere along the assembly pathway...I'd vote for auditioning both to see if you develop a preference.
I'll leave the HDMI question for someone with more expertise, but I wanted to let you know that either choice should make you happy.
Buddha,
Thaks for your response. I know the only answer is to listen to everything paired up.
This is like any other hobby: you can go low-budger or absolutely berserk! I haven't really ever bought ANY stereo equipment. Received some original series Bose AM-5's just before my frosh. year in college (1989!), and was given a Philips receiver just after soph. year.
It's time to upgrade!!
You know, I may actually have one more way of answering this question.
If you are just about the get your feet wet, it may be worth doing nothing for a month or so, and seeing what things here or at other Hi Fi sites grab your attention.
I've known alot of people who bought into some new gear, but the Hi Fi bug bit them so hard, it was almost immedaitely that they started to up their budget and thinking.
I'd suggest perusing the forums for gear that has been talked about to see if perhaps you'll catch a bigger fever for this stuff than you already have.
Also, check out some of the posts about used gear, just in case.
Cheers.
Also, if you wait for a while, you may have some extra Christmas $$ from your loving grandma to spend...or whatever holiday you celebrate. Don't get caught up in the turmoil of cable, isolation racks, and the like. I'm sure if you polled most all of us, all these tweaks we perceverate about were of no concern when we each bought our first decent system. As we always suggest, listen well. If you have a used stereo store or good audio repair shop in town, you may find some terrific bargains. Good luck, and welcome!
Hi
I will only comment on the HDMI input.output.
If you own or planning to purchase a lcd or plasma tv , HDMI
is crucial although you could allways skip it and connect your dvd player (provided it has HDMI output) straight on the tv.
I'm trying to be as level-headed about this as possible. I know myself, and if I spend TOO much time shopping and listening, it may become well nigh impossible to make a decision! The choices are simply overwhelming.
As for the HDMI issie, I already havea Sony Grand Wega LCD, so I supposed I need to find gear that is HDMI capable.
Looking forward to bugging you guys some more. Happy Thanksgiving
Chris
