Buddha,

I absolutely agree with everything that you wrote, from Los Lobos' inexplicable exclusion from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame to the five star rating of their latest release. Los Lobos has been one of the hardest working and best groups on the rock scene for well over twenty years now and they have more than earned their spot in the hall of fame.

BTW, is "The Town and the City" available on vinyl yet? Or better still, is it an analog recording and even worth getting on vinyl?

Hi, Jazzfan!

Well, you set me on a quest...

I haven't found any info on whether or not there'll be an LP.

I also couldn't find any reference in the CD booklet about wheter the disc was recorded in analog.

However, I sat through some videos about the production of that disc at www.loslobos.org and there were some interesting tidbits:

The disc is primarily digitally recorded in terms of sounds they made in the studio, but there is some content fed right to the "computer" that David Hidalgo recorded on his home 8-track cassette recorder. In fact, some of the instrumentation and vocals on track one are his actual cassette demos!

That's all I can find, so far.

If I was rich man, I'd buy everybody on the forums this disc.

Buddha - nice thread. Los Lobos is one of the best ever imo. Their studio output is consistently strong and their live shows are always killer. I too love the new CD; perhaps MoFi will release it on LP.

Jazz Fan - are you going to see the 12-29 Govt. Mule/Los Lobos show in NYC @The Beacon? Should be the "show of the year!"

Hi Dave,

Thanks for the heads up on the Govt. Mule/Los Lobos show at the Beacon. I would love to go but I probably will not for the simple reason that Los Lobos is opening act rather the headliner which will mean that they will play for an hour and Gov. Mule will play for two hours. If it was reversed I'd go in a heartbeat. I still may go if my good friend Stu can come up with some a couple of free tickets.

Hey JazzFan!

I hear ya, but I think that Los Lobos will actually get to play for an hour and a half. Plus, there will be lots of cross-polination, with Warren Haynes sitting in w/Los Lobos and I'm sure that David Hidalgo and Cesar Rosas (at the very least) will both sit in w/Mule. Of course scoring free tix makes any show worth it, but this billing looks to be among the best in recent memory and with the impending sale of the very fan-friendly Beacon Theatre, I think that this is one not to miss. . .

Were I still living on the East Coast, I'd be there in a heartbeat.

BTW, my buddy saw the Govt. Mule show in Philly last night and said that it was off the hook; lotsa great covers, including 3 Hendrix tunes (!) and an encore of "Cortez The Killer." I could see something like that happening on Dec. 29, with Cesar and David (if not the entire band) sitting in.

If you do go, let us know how it was!

Cheers!

Dave

Nice new avatar, Yiangos! Very hip! I really like it.

Edit: Why do I keep losing stars? I used to have 5 stars, then 3, now I'm down to just two measly stars. What gives?

Many of us started out with 5 stars. I suspect lurkers have been taking issue with some of what we have to say and are voting us down. The only comforting thing is that DUP is at 1.

Buddah,

I agree 100%. It is quite the travesty. One of North America's best bands getting no respect. What a big surprise. It's hard to any air time when it's all about Britney shaving her empty head! I wonder why the music bizness is in such rotting decay????
Keep fighting the good fight.

Their new disc, "Tin Can Trust" is out.

I think they were just relaxing and playing tunes here. Which I mean in a good way.

Many parts of it remind me of songs John Doe might do...even down to the arrangements.

"Burn it Down" is so John Doe I had to hit the liner notes to see who wrote it! (Hidalgo/Perez.)

I give it a 7.5 on the Los Lobos Scale.

quite simple. the easy access to recording equipment has made for a worse shlock/good ratio. Dumbing down of music from something that should be at the forefront to this garbage that plays in the background. technical skill has dissapeared because anyone can "fix it in the mix"

Major Labels do not fund projects the way they used to. Those days are over. Still amazing music about(I post about music often) but nowhere near the mainstream
