They said the same thing for lp several times and it is still alive
Dup,there are a few formats, that for various reasons will never die. These are the cd,the lp and the dvd and even if they eventually "die" someday, all the new equipment will suport them (the 2 digital formats at least). As for the lp it will never die , even if something better (doubtful)eventually comes up and the reason is purely sentimental.
Maybe if the LP dies, a new format called the DUP will arise. The only problem is that it plays the same 3 things over and over. Oh wait, and over.
hahahahahahahahaha The "endless Dup" errrr loop.
All formats die off eventually. Once there was the; cylinder format (invented by Mr. Bell, if I'm correct), 78 rpm records (are 45s still around?), 4 & 8 track tapes, the open reel (still used but not so much in homes), the cassette format is slowly going by the wayside. Analog TV is being replaced by the digital format. Quadrophonics...haven't seen any of that for 30 years.
Before we know it stereophonics will be replaced by a new system call...Dupophonics.
The industry calls it a DEAD product when it doesn't sell in mega vols. giant conglomerates liek Philips cannot survive selling limited vol. LP is a DEAD product for teh masses. Look back in teh 50 and 60's when the LP was a high volume mass product. Philips even considers it's pown SACD a dead product. Volumes baby, Philips, sony music companies can't survive with miniscule unit sales. Philips knew the music business was heading down when they introduced their Cd recordable invention, they sold PolyGram a few years after that, PolyGram was teh worlds biggest music seller. Now it's part of universal, which is #1. Cassette tape sales is dead, LP is a specialty product now. hardy one to support mega Billion $ corps. Why would EMI exec call it dead, they are only in teh business!!!
they also delcare teh CRT based tv dead in 5 years acording to industry people. Philips was teh worlds biggest maker of CRT...under the LG Philips Display company, they have since sold off a majority ownership of that div. LG Philips LCD is teh world's biggest maker of LCD with Samsung moving back and forth #1 #2 they say LCD is the dominant disply for teh masses what do the industry people know anyway?
How right you are. Philips is in business to make mega$$$$. Apparently they consider the CD a dying format. Philips was the first company to mass produce the CD player, and one of only 3 companys that made the CD mechanism. They recently sold off the manufacturing rights because they don't foresee it making enough $$$ for them to make it worth their effort. But their is always someone who sees that there is still a market for an item and will continue the process just to make a buck.
So a music industry exec makes a prediction. Yawn. That group of people can't seem to do anything right or understand what consumers want so why should we listen to this guy? He probably confused reality with a dream he had last night of a world full of numbskulls paying 99 cents for crippled, low res noise. CDs rule!
