No. On my worst day, music gets me whole again. On my best day, music gives me perspective. Having a bad ear day? Try Haydn. Bach. Avoid Mahler on the bad days. Duke always works. Miles can make you jump out of your hole. If you're tired of playing your system, go downtown and listen to street music. Seriously, how could you even think such a thing?

Not yet anyway. I do go on binges with one kind of music or another, but I always need some.

I have to cop a "yes" answer.

There are spells where my system pisses me off for some reason - usually a godforsaken capacitor somewhere - that happens to coincide with life kicking my ass, and I am daunted by the task of "re-tuning."

I'm a "set it and forget it" kind of audiophile, so sometimes I have moments of wanting to just sit and listen to my integrated amp and flipping the bird to the basement gear.

I never wanna stop digging music, but sometimes the merry-go-round of maintenance pisses me off to the point of disdain for the high end.

I also need a laptop with wireless internet so I can listen downstairs and still work or hang, but our budget is so frayed right now that my wife (and chief budget advisor/boss) says we are incapable of doing that. I think that would really improve my audiophile existence.

You know that Bruce Cockburn song, "Hills of Morning?" He has a line...

I shoulda married Bill Gates. I coulda faked it, maybe. Anyway...

So, then I try to channel Freewheelin' Franklin, of the Fabulous Fury Freak brothers, whose motto was: ""Dope will get you through times of no money better than money will get you through times of no dope."

Only substitute "Hi Fi" for "dope" (or not.)

So, where the Hell was I?

Hi Fi is like any love, its intensity waxes and wanes...but I always come back to the place it are.

Oh, heck yeah. I sometimes go a week without listening. And, I once went several months with my rig stashed in storage after a move.

Are you kidding? I never turn my system off. I have to get my musical fix on a daily basis. You wouldn't want to keep my fix from me would you. I get chills, shakes and I can't control my actions without my fix. Give me music or... Hell, just give me my music.

Sorry to be somber. I could not bring myself to touch my Thorens for about a week, then put on the Who (it's late) something O'Rielly, we wont't get fooled again, danced aroundd the room, YeeHaa!! didn't stop till dawn, I'm back I thought, but I will Never Ever Forget!!!!

I usually leave my rig(s) running, but, don't always have time to sit and listen attentively.

Craig - When you use the quote feature, it would help if you added your text after the coding in the brackets so that your own words don't get mixed in with those of the person you're quoting. Several of your recent posts were difficult to read because of this.

I may have wrongly assumed that you meant, say, a day or two (or longer) by a "spell." I play a lot of music every day, but not all day. A "listening dry spell" for me is all morning and all afternoon, but I'm ready for some tunes come sundown. My car radio is always on when I drive (there are a couple of good classical stations here in LA).
