I don't know, but it might have something to do with the Sony/BMG root kits that they experimented with a year or so ago. Playing one of the discs with the encoded software on your computer would infect the computer with a hidden file.
Ah, I remember that fiasco well!
No, this goes way back to the early 90s. I can remember taking some CDs into a shop to do a trade years ago and the dude there wouldn't take them because they said "Columbia House" on the back. Took them to another shop, same thing.
I've also heard other people refer to Club CDs as "crappy" yet I've never seen[or heard] a difference between them and "official" CDs.
Why would a major record maker BMG or Columbia make on purpose INFERIOR discs? It still has their name on it, so I guess they just wanna piss off their customers? That urban myth has been circulating since the LP days. Has to be nonsense. Wouldn't it cost more to set up an operation to make inferior discs on purpose, so the production line is making good ones, then they switch over to a run of inferior ones? Seems like it would cost more to make them bad. they sometimes inadvertently willl make them bad without trying, why do it on purpose? At one time when pressing LP's I know some of teh majors did use recycled vinyl, which gave it problems, and they wheren't even trying to make them bad, it just backfired when they tried to cut costs. Even recycled steel in cars is not the same as VIRGIN steel. Virgin Steel, sounds like a Porno star.
On this one we agree DUP!
I got a SRV SACD Sessions w/Albert King from either BMG or columbiaHouse don't remeber (but now it's all BMG, BMG music service took over the Columbia House stuff, the GERMANS are on a buying binge, Bayer got Schering AG, BASF is buying Engelhard, and the FRENCH are saving GM from sure demise on their current path (that's a neat pun, "current part" think about it. There is no difference between the $1.99 special from the club to the copy I got from some place for around $17 or something...difference is the label on one says made for BMG music etc. I bought it specifically cus' it was offereed as a bonsu selection at an absurd LOW price for an SACD and it was one of my all time favorites, get it try it you'll like it Like wires, there is no difference in music club discs and from other sourses, wouldn't make any sense, another audio land made up nonsensical phanthom fact. what color is your AC outlet? IS IT AUDIOGRADE?
You want to hear some real guitar playing get yourself a copy of George Benson Body Talk on CTI. It was recorded before George started singing. Most blues guitar players wish they could play that good.
