Could you be more specific about what you mean by budget, ie: how much are we talking here and do you already have a phono preamp?

Welcome to the forum, and welcome to Team Linn....

I am running my older LP12 still on a Linn K18 Moving Magnet (MM) cartridge. I am looking at a new Moving Coil (MC) cartridge from Dynavector (model 10x5) (380 USD) that has many great reviews for being a reasonable price.

A site : 10x5

And I will be looking at a Phono Preamp as well, which has not been decided on yet (the reason for my other thread).

Considering the currency given, you must be located in the UK (the land of Linn). I am betting that there are some stores around that could give you some direct advice as to your options for the price.

Not knowing anything else about your system or table it is hard to make blind recommendations. Here is a list of a lot of available needles in the US, don't worry they get cheaper as you go down.

Needle Doctor Cart List

There is also the issue of a Phono Preamp Amps(120v versions) (if your preamp/ receiver/ integrated amp, does not have a phono stage). So, you will have to really figure out a total budget to get yourself up and running.

Cartridge - > Phono Preamp -> interconnects - > the rest of your system

Good luck, but I would say research a little in your price range and go local for what you can get and get serviced.

For a phono cartridge at the upper end of your budget, Sumiko Blue Point Special for MC and Grado Platinum for MM. It's kind of difficult to recommend something specific not knowing what price and selection differences you have in GB. An LP12 deserves the best cartridge and phono preamp you can afford plus another 15%.

Yiangos has a good question. What kind of tonearm is on your LP12? We all assumed it was a Linn, but that may not be so.
