Hi, Radish -- welcome to the forum. I don't know which cartridge was playing in Roy Hall's system at the show, but whichever one it was, it was SUPERB. The sound was natural, lively, and transparent, when played through the small Epos floorstanders he was using. Of course, all the electronics were Music Hall. This was, for me, one of the best rooms in the entire show, costs be damned. You should write, call, or e-mail Roy Hall and ask him about the differences between the two models, and ask him which one he was playing at the show. He is a very honest man and has been around analog sound for a long time -- I am sure he will be willing to spend some time with you about which cartridge would be most appropriate for your needs. According to his brochure, both the "Tracker" and "Magic" are moving-magnet types. His telephone number is 516-487-3663. His address is, "Music Hall, 108 Station Road, Great Neck, NY 11023," and his web site is http://www.musichallaudio.com. Now, I hope I don't get flamed for advertising on the forum, but, hey, you asked! Cheers, and good luck with your system! Clifton

Clifton,

Thanks for your sound advice. (That's probably a tired pun on this forum but, hey, I'm a newbie.)

Just want to second Clifton's welcome and to commend you on making some excellent choices given a limited budget commitment - analog playback, Roy Hall's products and Outlaw. Curious as to your speaker choices.

Cheapskate,

Thanks for the welcome.

As for my speaker choice, I purchased Monitor Audio Silver RS6s about two weeks ago. I also listened to some Epos M-5s and liked them, but in the end I went with the RS6s. I'm still working on speaker placement, toe-in, etc., but I'm very pleased with them.

So...you can probably date my entry into the audiophile waters with the March 2006 issue of Stereophile.

As a fellow cheapskate, I'm trying to do the research that will ensure that I'm getting a product that suits both my ears and my wallet. I'd say I have big ears and a small wallet.

I'm impressed with the collegiality and helpfulness on this forum; I'm glad I found it.

Cheers,

radish

Hi radish. Welcome to the Forum, and welcome to these audiophile waters.

I just want to echo Cheapskate's comment: I think you've made some very fine choices for an entry into the hobby. Good luck with finding the right cartridge.

A fellow-newbie,

Monty

I hear the wait on those Outlaws is quite lengthy. I bet it was a happy day in your home when UPS arrived. Welcome aboard.
