AcousTech PH-1P is very well reviewed and has been the bargain phono stage that can compete with the best. You can probably pick one up around the top of your price point and it might be last phono stage you will need to own.

On the low end, NAD, Parasound, Pro-Ject and many others make entry level stages that will get you back in business for less than $200.

If you are considering the possibility of buying a full function preamp, you might want to stick with the entry level stuff. You can get some really nice phono sections with some of the better preamps and you won't be out much money. Of course, if you opt for the AcousTech now, you will have a top notch phono stage that would partner with just about any preamp or integrated.

Thanks Monty. I had seen the PH1P before, and was considering it, because it can take both MM and MC. Also, it was about the price point that I was looking for. It might be the long term solution that I am looking for. I have been poking around needle doctor for other options.

After I posted, I looked over and realized that I have a built in short term solution. Enter the Carver C-2, that I have had around for a long time. I might try it as a phono preamp, but my bigger thought, is to put it into my bedroom system, and move the Exposure XVII (which has a pretty darn good MM phono stage in it already) and use that as my phono preamp for my LP headphone listening system. I also have an old Carver M1.0t that I could hook up if I wanted to setup a small near field (small B&W or Red Rose) listening area as well.

Thanks again. Other options out there friends ?????

If you don't want to go all out at once, you might consider dropping $250.00 on the Bellari:

I do like the tube aspect of this little guy. And it also 'looks really cool'. It looks like it has some good reviews. Anyone heard it around here?

As time goes on I am getting more into tube gear (the ALS as an example). One of my long term projects is to listen to the Cary 300SEI with my Senn HD650 headphones, since the headphones are pushed directly from the 300B's. But, I would need a phono stage anyway with this (more pricey) option.
