While it is certainly more appropriate for WP to comment on what he meant, I took it to mean that the 140 doesn't demand a finicky set-up or particular sonic characteristics from the supporting components. In other words, the 140 sounds great and you don't have to stress out about system matching. That, of course, disqualifies them from being "audiophile" gear. He was poking fun at all of us, including himself.

The phrase also alludes to an African proverb, "It takes a whole village to raise a child", that Hillary Rodham Clinton made famous.

I think what is being conveyed is that these speakers don't require the audiophile stamp of approval or the audio community to declare that they sound good; they'll sound good to anyone, even non-audiophiles.

If that is truly what's being conveyed then I am even more confused. Why would any speakers need an audiophile stamp of approval, or any stamp of approval, to declare they sound good?
