I just checked my social calender. Lucky you -- the next 6 months are open. Who's gonna supply the gurneys? Clifton

Would anyone like me to bring some myrtle blocks? My Magnavox boombox for some quick A/B-ing? Old love letters? A book of bad poetry?

Wow! Already calls for breaking out the old love letters and bad poetry.

Looks like Stephen has already started the party!

Dude, you're an animal!

"...He's got a rose in his teeth and a lampshade crown..."

I better go have an eye opener just to keep up with the pre-party!

Where did you FIND this? I know it's an old line, by now, but this guy who used to pitch for the Dodgers, Bob Welch, famous for striking out Reggie Jackson on 3 down-the-middle fastballs in a world series game, used to pitch half loaded, all the time. He wrote an autobiography after retirement, called It's Always Five O'clock Somewhere.

Clifton, I assume you're asking about the Louis Jordan quote. In that case, allow me to do you a tremendous favor: Run, do not walk, to a deep inventory music shop and get The Best of Louis Jordan on MCA.

Jordan was a thrilling alto sax player, jumping band leader (actually, the leader of a jump band, if you want to get technical), and a comedic vocalist on the rarified level of a Fats Waller. I don't envy the guy at MCA who had to reduce Jordan's "best" to 20 songs, but he did a pretty good job.

A lot of Jordan's songs are all around us even today, but he's not a well-known as he should be. In a properly run country, his picture would be on the money -- his performances always were.

Some of my favorites: "Choo Choo Ch'Boogie," "Ain't Nobody Here But Us Chickens," "Saturday Night Fish Fry," "Caledonia," "Is You Is or Is You Ain't My Baby," "Beans and Cornbread," "Nobody Knows You When You're Down and Out," and my favorite, "Beware, Brother, Beware." And, of course, "What's the Use of Getting Sober (When You're Going to Get Drunk Again)?"

All of which will be on my iPod at the Forum party, of course.

BTW, Jordan also made a series of short films for the "race" movie theater circuit in the late '40s/early '50s, some of which were almost halucinatory, such as one cowboy costume scenario in which Jordan and band break into their latest hit during a frantic horseback chase scene -- the sight of Jordan playing alto sax on horseback is a hoot!

I'm on it. I had no idea. I hope Rockaway can help me out on this one! It's only a drive and a 3-iron from my front door. Thanks, Clifton

Ah, Barkley. They just don't make politicians like they used to, eh? The ones nowadays are so...serious. Just when Cheney was showing some real potential, they take away his shotgun. So sad. Cheers, and see you at the party. This is shaping up nicely.

Ah, Bob Welch.

Multi-talented to say the least!

He should have stayed with Fleetwood Mac.

I think he also had a three pitch strike out with his version of "Sentimental Lady."

Sweet!
It'll be great to see you all without having to look into a computer screen. Have we thought of a time and place?

Are there any days where happy hour is not pre-scheduled?

After hours is good, too.

California is quite backward with regard to last call. I think the bars close at one on week nights and two on weekends.

I'm easy. You're working, so I'll defer to your schedule.

Mike and I will have wine in our room for all hours partying.

Hate to tell you boys, but I drink a half glass of wine at the most. Regardless, I look forward to seeing you there. Anyone got a spare pair of Mickey Mouse ears? If you're trying to spot me, put me next to Wes Philips, look up, then look down, down, down. Which some of you may be accustomed to doing already when my name is mentioned.

You guys and Buddha. Sheesh. I get my Dockers and navy blue blazer special dry-cleaned, expecting to meet la-creme-de-la-creme of audiophile society, and what do I get? A bunch of winos.

Jeff,

There will be pictures alright, and once the "take-er" shows them to the "takee", money will exchange hands and we will never really know what when on at THE H.E. I regret not being able to go. I will really miss going on the LP pressing plant tour.

Do you think introducing myself as a member of the Stereophile forum would get me pass the GIs in front of the US embassy?
Once in, I can fill a visa application stating "getting drunk at the Hi-Fi show" as reason for visiting the US. I'm sure the ambassador will approve - if he recovers from the bout of ROFLMAO, of course!

Actually, every member of the diplomatic corps I have ever met has taken drinking very seriously.
