Mine are playing just fine, what do you mean SACD are dieing? Mine have plenty of "life" in em'.

No one can guarantee that this new technology will take off. Sad to say, the DVD-audio choices are dying. I don't have SACD but the same is likely true. I seem to listen to the music server in 2 channel more than anything since I only have found 7 dvd-audios to buy thus far. Wouldn't mind finding 'After Hours" by Gary Moore before it dies totally.

Yes it is a ploy to get you to buy the same stuff again. I have not heard of the formats for audio only releases. Considering the storage space, it could be really high resolution. But the new format is really for the movie and computer companies. I buy more blank DVD's for my own use than I do DVD audio or DVD movies.

I like that I am still able to buy new SACD releases of Living Stereo recordings (can't afford the original shady dogs), as well as a select few new recordings (pop, rock, jazz). If it does die, I will be sad. But it only should really die, if we stop buying.

I think that you pretty much nailed it there. I may have stated the same thing elsewhere on this forum (or somewhere else while shooting off my big mouth, just like another guy named Ralph) but the movie industry has never really gotten comfortable with the fact that they have to give away (well not give it away, we do actually buy it) the content with the damn DVDs. Throw in the fact that one can easily copy those same DVDs and the movie industry is now really upset.

My gut feeling is that the movie industry would rather kill the potential cash cow of the vast home theater market then move forward with any high definition video format with less than bullet proof copy protection. However, at the present time bullet proof copy protection appears to be stopping all those wonderful pie in the sky dreams of convergence dead in their tracks. Home Theater Magazine, The Perfect Vision along with the computer publications remain quite mute on the whole matter while we, the consumer and the ones shelling the money, get royally hosed.

I think it's high time for at least one of publications to come to the defense of the lowly consumer and tell all the real truths: There is no convergence, copy protection and DRM is killing home theater and other hardware, lossy compression is terrible and so forth.
