You may want to transfer some Lps to CD for portable playback while on the road. Some of us still use portable Cd players on occasion. You can also make LP compilation discs. At the current reduced price and modded it is a very good buy and gets rid of OS computer problems that do crop up now and again. I still find uploading Cds and transfering them in to playlist for my IPod time consuming and and somewhat cumbersome. It ties up your computer hard drive and if you delete them after loading your IPod and reattach your IPod later you will lose all those files and start over.

I use my 20gig U2 IPod for most portable listening, but I still use my 2 portable CD players on occasion. For portables with my Grados they are certainly better than not listening at all.

In MF's case I think any LP off his Continuum into the modded Alesis would sound pretty sweet and probably better that live playback off my Rega P3 for sure. It really depends what you are recording from and his Continuum is about as good as it gets.

Thanks Jim

I still have an old Harman Kardon (it's downstairs and i am in my lazy moods to go check the model number lol but if i remember well it is something like HR2 or similar.2 it is but not sure about the lettering) and since it is a tein deck,i find it very convinient to make recordings for the car. Even though the recordings are crystal clear, dynamic ,etc,i've allways thought they were ummmm not that "musical" if you know what i mean. A few days ago,i was driving my youngest daughter somewhere and she brought with her a cd full of mp3 songs, put it in the cd player of my car and said to me : Dad,please, don't take this out.Let's just listen to some songs by singers who are still alive ! lololol The little brat !!! Anyway, and i'll probably go to hell for saying this, that mp3 cd was actually sounding better than the cds i make through the H.K. I think, for a change,i'll make a cd through "windows" just to see how the sound will compare, even mp3,i don't care as long as it sounds good.

I have heard the mp3s from MFs rig and they are all anyone says they are. It also says much about owing a vacuum record cleaning machine. Anyone who plays vinyl should consider this an indespensible tool. Once you hear a remarkable vinyl recording devoid to ticks and pops it is magical. Even a VRCM at $229 is worth it. Check AudioAdvisor .

I agree,any serious audiophil/vinyl lover should own a VRCM.
After living with the new format (cd) for years,i decided to check again my vinyl collection. The first thing i did , i bought a VPI 17f vrcm and although a "pig" especially when the allready installed brush wears out (believe me,it's a pin-in-the-butt) to align the brush so as not to spill everything out of the lp) the job it does is fantastic.
