I would not shut myself out from some lateral thinking.... Helps me keep an open mind....

Cheers

I don't mind lateral thinking either, it's the lateral thinking times 2 that can become insufferable.

I enjoy spirited, differences of opinion that contributes to useful debate and exchanges of ideas. I also enjoy respectful social interaction and appreciate reasonably good manners being observed in that interaction.

Poor manners are a downer and something that is frowned upon in my neck of the woods. I like being able to limit unnecessary exposure to that sort of stuff in my life.

Amen Monty.

He's one click away form being on my "blocked" list, but I can't help wondering what size (hopefully treated) room he's using those 4200/116db in, and which "Ultimate sound forever" SACD player he's using! Might be a chuckle in there somewhere.

Dang, I toiled for a couple of years to save up enough for a 250 watt MF or Krell only to find out that now I'm gonna need 16 of dem der buggers!

I began ignoring our rude friend after his first two or three posts and it has been a real pleasure. Disagreement is normal, even invited. Tolerating rudeness is pointless. Life is too short.

To double loudness it takes 10X the power. so a 100w would need 1000W to double loudness and have MUSIC that is not compressed, flat and lifeless. There is a difference, between music that sounds like real music and compressed, lifeless systems. Yeah, lets all get a 3W $10,000 amp and convince ourselves, WOW, this is really live. Attend more LIVE music as your reference, then you will beleive. I thought this magazine was about reproducing muisc as close to live as ya can get, or is it just about selling over priced, stuff that really doesn't? Same with speakers, to move air, like live music, it takes some speakers of size, unless of course, StereoPhile readers have circumvented physics, with some magic adaptor in their world.

DUD if you hate everything about music, and the reproduction of music, why do you come here and torment those who have not given in to your malady?

http://www.legacyaudio.com/manuals/whisper.pdf Read towards the end where it talks about wires, and power needed...It's all there by a speaker guru.

You can find people who will still testify that the earth is flat, that the US government is run by Jews, and that there is no difference between men and women. The fact that you can find twits who will spout that drivel does not impress me. I have heard Legacy speakers. I would not buy them for any price!!! The reviewer from Stereophile thought they were great. Good for him! I respectfully disagree.

There are aspects about this hobby that cannot be explained by physics, which I studied for two years in college and got an "A" the first year, and a "B" the second. I'm not bragging since a "B" is not very good, but the point is, I have studied physics. Just because you bust out a twenty-five cent word doesn't prove anything you are trying so ineffectively to say!

Physicists at the end of the 19 century publically declared that the study of physics would cease to exist during the 20th century because everything that could be learned about the physical world was already known. That was before cars, airplanes, space travel, television, and audio grade outlets!

Don't try to state that everything about the known world is already available in a physics textbook. There is a lot that physicists don't know, and profoundly more about which you, DUD are unaware.

You can follow any guru you want, straight to audio hell, while I will use my minimal physics background and my own ears to determine what really sounds good.

Sorry for doing this in a seperate post, but I had to take a breath after my last rant!

The self-rightous idea that people use live music as a standard for determining the relative value of their own system is a complete joke.

There are so many variables about which the listener knows nothing that it is impossible for anyone to know how their system reflects that actual event having been recorded.

Allow me, if you will, to pick on JA. He has been involved in a number of recordings for Stereophile, many of which I own. He heard the event take place, he has the master tapes (maybe), and he was there during the mastering of the CDs. BUT, (and that's a big but, not JAs but the first but)he does not know the soloist, or the tonal qualities of the violin, or piano being played. He has only heard them on those days, in that room.

I like to play around with my flutes, of which I have two. They sound completely different, but both sound like a flute. If I play one of my flutes in my listening room, it sounds different than if I play it in my living room, family room, or yikes, in my bathroom. Every time I play it, in any given room, it sounds like a flute.

So if I, or JA were to record the flute, which sound would we try to reproduce, the listening room, the living room, or the bathroom?

If an artist plays a piece in the Statt Opern in Vienna, and then plays the same piece in Performing Arts Center in Milwaukee it will sound different even though the artist played the same music on the same instrument.

So, DUD when you are trying to reproduce that concert in your hovel, which sound will you try to reproduce, the concert from Vienna (which I personally prefer) or the Performing Arts Center in Milwaukee?

The same violin played in ten different halls will sound different in each! It is disengenuous, at best, to say "I'm reproducing live music in my room." You don't know enough about the event to be able to make that determination!

You need to keep installing "audio grade" outlets. ther eis no such classification NEMA, NEC doesn't make mention of any such device, matter o fact neither do pro sound guys....they sure do snicker at "audiophiles" who hear teh differences. Are you lifting your wires off the ground with audio grade wire lifts, cus' the live performace, the wires are draggin gon the floor, walked on. the amps and pa systems are being plugged in, un plugged day in day out, josled about some nice Marshall speaker cabinets that are built like tanks, driven by a Komet head, and it uses a non audio phile line cord, yet makes incredible blues guitar, day in day out, loaded unloaed, that is what makes a difference, not magic wires, what exactly do you hear with an "audio grade" outlet, fed of course by a non audio grade ckt breaker, have you installed your audio grade fuses yet? No such thing, except in teh ad manager gleeful tones of, hey, just what I just came up with, the loads will fall for it, lets paint it gold, name it some complicated name, that makes it sound impressise, and we cn sell a 50 cent fuse for $25.!!!

When the drum snap is just like it was at the live event, and the guitar wailing like SRV live, it's reprodcing the event...I have concluded you have never heard a top end system, you are stuck in mass fi world, of course it don't sound real.

So DUD, you didn't read anything I wrote? I am honestly having a hard time not insulting you for the things you say, and you wonder why others want nothing to do with you.

The people you quote are the physicists of the 19th century who claim there is nothing new to learn! Mock and ridicule all you want! I wouldn't use those Haflers for boat anchors, and those speakers sound awful!

Your knowledge of pro audio is as woefully lacking as your knowledge of HiFi! Pros are the biggest tweakers out there, and I'm not talking about the drugs both you and they abuse.

I know a number of professional musicians who play with cable, roll tubes, and all that good stuff.

Please stop for a moment to think before placing your next post. It will save you from looking even more foolish.
