I wasn't impressed with Jane Monheit's vocal or the sound quality on "331/3." Maybe it sounds better when your $40K speakers are -5db at 40hz and -7db at 10Khz.

Guest vocals and sound quality on Marian McPartland's "85 Candles," are much better.

This is the last time I buy a recording JM recommends.

In your opinion..."Music should invigorate, not sedate."

You listen to what you want, and I will do the same. Since my comments annoy you as well as my music choices, please ignore my future posts which I will do my best to keep to a minimum and I promise to ignore ALL OF YOURS!

Hi DUP, while I like to see strong opinions, strongly expressed, you get close at times to the line separating that from flames. Please cool it.

I'm sorry for the harsh tone of my comments about JM's recommendation of "33 1/2." The music is very good, but my audiophile side doesn't like the compressed sound of this recording.

DUD this seems to be a very youthful opinion about music. Music comes in all shapes and sizes, colors, hues, and tones. All music can serve a purpose, but having an immature view of music will prevent you from experiencing a lot of good/great music. Is a Mozart string concerto of no quality because it does not elevate your blood pressure?

What responsibility does music have to you?

As you grow up you will find there are lots of styles of music that you can enjoy.

I have a couple of Jane Monheit CDs, sadly nothing on LP, and I enjoy much of her work. It's not for everyone, but nothing is for EVERYONE. I recommend it to people that I think will like her music.

The tough thing about a review is: there is no specific audience. Many people who will not care one wit for JM will read the review. There is no way to eliminate the non-fan, other than the title, and those are rarely frightening.

I have read reviews of lots of stuff that did not end up interesting me. I have also gone out and bought LPs, and CDs based on reviews which I enjoyed immensely (sp) The music, not the review) and ended up being very thankful.

I really don't think the cost of a CD is worth getting upset and writing off a reviewer, but it's your CD.

Jim, how is Gordon Lightfoot in Reno? I have a number of music DVDs, and am a huge Lightfoot fan, but I never bought this video.

If it ain't got soul, emotion, invigerating fret work, masterful keyboards and messmerizing drum and guitar wailing. ie. Buddy guy, Albert king,Albert Collins,Gary Moore,Hendrix,Roy Buchannan SRV,Tinsley Ellis, MAtt Oree,Freddie King....why bother. The sould needs stiring, done through the strings of teh masters, backed up by great bass patterns, great drum work, soulful guitar wailing. classical music doesn't do it. It's not personal, not soulful, it's to big, too crowded, doesn't grab me. Too chaotic, and busy. Most is liek sound effects.
