You can find the Stereophile review of the amplifier at www.stereophile.com/tubepoweramps/992dynaco , but I am afraid I don't know who makes blue EL34s. The original price was $1095; I would offer $250.

Here is are three links for good sources for various
vacuum tubes. Their selection and pricing is excellent. You may want to consider matched sets to keep the gain more consistent. The usually have excellent customer service. At the price JA recommends it could be an excellent find. EL34s are an affordable tube.
JA, thanks for the link to the review...and I'll offer $250...more if I have to, because the 70 looks absolutely brand-spankin' new...
And Jim T., thanks for the links to tube suppliers...the Tube Store has the blue glass EL-34s (Tesla) in a blue glass offering, so I'll assume that's what these are...I can already see myself doin' a bunch of tube-rolling!
One other concern is the fact that the 70 has been idle for the better part of 11 years. Since I do own a Variac, would it be prudent for me to bring the amp up slowly on it?

The variac may NOT be a good ideal. What you really want is a stable voltage source. You should notice that when JA starts testing the amps capable of KW power on the power output tests his line voltage can sag somewhat. You should not experience anything like that. You should love the sound of the Dynaco. Enjoy.
