If the receiver is truly analog, you will need to convert your digital output to analog. There are DACs that will do this but easier/cheaper solutions exist including external USB soundcards.

When i said analogue receiver i simply meant that it only had rca connections and not optical or digital coax. Sorry if im using the wrong term. The exteranl Phillips sound card acts as a dac; it is a usb external sound card.
Well, then your original idea of a pair of high quality RCA interconnects from the analog output is the obvious start. How long a run is necessary?

I would say at least 25 feet.
Doable, but not a slam dunk, depending on the drive capability of the soundcard and noise environment. Try it. The only alternative might a powered USB extension to relocate the soundcard adjacent to the receiver.

Thanks man thats a good idea. I could then just switch between the onboard sound card and the external one if i wanted to use my headphones versus the stereo in the other room.
Max, if your laptop is setup for wireless and has iTunes you should be able to hook up an AirPort Express to the receiver, aka "AirTunes".
