Like Wes, my wife and I have two cats. One of them is a bona fide music lover. Play something - anything - on the main system, and she is there, and she stays until the listening session is over. Great company. Unlike many humans, she knows enough to say nothing while others are enjoying the music.

Mine had a minor influence on my equipment choice. They do like to climb and I worried that small speakers on a stand might not stay on the stand. They can climb all the want upon my Paradigm Studio Reference 100s and the speaker never notices.

We have two manx that react quite differently when I turn it up in the den. My manx, Zelda loves the music and stretchs out content on the carpet.Barney, my wife's baby gets right next to the speakers (The kappa's have side mounted woofers) and glares at it. Barney is not much for bass, I guess.

I had a cat many years ago that also liked music.

In particular, this cat's favorite was Floyd Cramer's
"Last Date". Whenever I played "Last Date"; he would
"dance" - he'd prance back and forth between the stereo
speakers.

Doc, I swear this is a true story. Back in the dark and abysm of time, when I was married, we had a Borzoi we would occasionally let into the house. When we played the stereo, he would squat, cock his head like Nipper, then slowly edge towards one of the speakers, sniffing and glancing guiltily at us, then stand up suddenly, raise his leg, and piss on the offending speaker (or try to, as one of us would be in full charge-'n-tackle mode). HER dog, or I would have been after the 12-gauge in the closet. Never seemed to hurt the sound, on the one or two rare occasions when we missed: a sterling recommendation for the build quality of Rectilinear III's. I like your cat's trick better! Clifton

Our dog reacts to two artists/composers. When she hears Schoenberg, she starts barking, and when she hears Diamanda Galas sing she starts to do that long low howl that dogs in mourning do.

To spare her canine sensibilities, we allow no post-1975 Rod Stewart discs to enter the house. Every Picture Tells a Story and Faces discs seem OK with her, but we just don't want to take the chance.

Yma Sumac makes her do that "doggie covering her ears thing," and Nina Hagen makes her get nervous and pee by the door to the backyard. With her reaction to these two female vocalists, you can see why we are so careful about Rod Stewart.

Yeah, and our old dog used to do that to himself whenever he heard Jackson Browne sing "Rosie" or Steven Stills sing "Love the One You're With."

My cat seems utterly indifferent to music (although she might attack me if I played some Britney - never tried that) but *I* enjoy music even more when my feline beauty is sleeping on my lap and we get into some heavy petting. You can't have that at the concert hall!
