I can't remember the letters, but I thought it was a 100 model. This goes back more than a year I believe. I bouight the later model 140 and it crapped out in 2 months. Sounded good when it worked. I was only out $40.

I haved use two other Sony models and a Panasonic with my Grados. For portable it sounds good to me.

Thanks guys. From what I see in reviews they tend to crap out regularly. (As yours did Jim) Maybe I should be looking for a different portable, or possibly a backup to this one in case it does dump.

Thanks again.

Wow! I don't know how you guys use your PCDPs (portable CD players), but 2 months seem like an extremely short life for the player.

I've had good luck with Aiwa and Sony's D-NE300, which was raved at head-fi.org, during my daily commute. Both are about $50.00, used with my Sennheiser PX-200 and sounded great.

Reading between the lines, I'm guessing that Paul is so concerned about durability because he won't be able to bop into a local RatShack where he's heading. There also might be mobility issues.

Of course, an iPod running uncompressed files might be a worthwhile option, especially paired with a good headphone amp such as HeadRoom's new Micro.

That's absolutely right. Once I'm out there, I'm out there. Also we are limited to what we can take on the helicopter so I have to par down as much as possible. Possibly an Ipod & run lossless is an option. I have an Archos mp3 that will run into the Headroom as well, but the sound is.... weak at best. The nice thing about an Ipod over CD is that I don't have to pack the CD's. This means I can pack a few more pairs of underwear. Too much information??

Thanks everyone.

Paul
