Wow, you have great timing.
You MUST audition an APL Hi Fi 3910.

Truly truly worth your time.
I've heard his players and LOVE them.
Thanks, Buddha, but (unfortunately) I cannot follow your advice.
To make things easier to understand: I live in Eastern Europe so traveling to the US just to audition a player (or even 10 players, for that matter) is out of the question. Should things be different I would decidedly NOT spend 5 grand on any piece of equipment without listening to it by myself... but, as it happens, I have to rely more on advice and reviews (which are always stellar no matter how bad the component realy is) to make my decision.
I only hope advice from fellow audiophiles is less biased (no ad money at stake).
The Linn Unidisk is right at that price point, got a great review from WP and AD I believe, and plays every format known to man...and is a preamp processor to boot. Now that is way cool!!!!! You should be able to find it where you are.
Sorry to hear about the difficulty of auditioning the component.
I would go so far as to recommend the APL 3910 to someone sight unseen.
Alex, the owner, is from Bulgaria, maybe he has a relative with a player nearby!
That player is so good, if I had one I wouldn't care if they stay at redbook for all future digital discs.
It's an A+ deck.
Best wishes on your hunt, keep us posted!
