Well different strokes for different folks, but I'm extremly disapointed. Maybe I just don't get it, or maybe I just can't get past the lousy sonics, but it's not a "Way Out West" or even close in my humble opinion. I'm off to get the new "The Essential Sonny Rolins: The RCA Years" in hopes of a more gratifying experience.
RG
To be fair RG, I was listening to the Rollins CD while at work and my audio system here at work is, shall we say, less than state of the art. I will be giving the Rollins CD another listen on my home reference system but still I doubt that I'll be unable to not get pass the lousy sonics and get it!
However, I will keep you posted.
Update for RG:
I gave the Rollins another spin on the "big" at home and yes the sonic are substandard and yes, the trombone player gets way too much solo time but Rollins is still Rollins.
My solution - play the new Rollins CD in the car, at the office or on your iPod!! And play the classic "Way Out West" on the reference rig. Thank God there's plenty of Sonny Rollins to go around.
